OP Report: June's The Word ~ June 16, 2017

June 16, 2017

June's The WordAnother week has passed, it’s time for another report from the crew at The Outpost here in Port Louis. While June has brought the rain, it has also traditionally brought some of the best fishing during the season. The ability to drive 2 minutes from home and get into multiple fish while looking at the lodge is not to be understated. June is a time when we get to fish hard close to home, see bigger schools cruise by and search out the Halibut grounds for the sweet spots. When we left you last, we were in mid trip with Bob Gayton and the boys. Along with George, Ivan, Dale and crew the weather cleared up and the fishing continued to produce.Carlos Sola got after it In Danger Bay, with a nice size average of 20+

He didn’t even mind too much me hanging around checking out the action

With what looked like a strenuous net job by guide prodigy Jonah, the result was the classic boat pic

Next we caught up to Bob on the dock with all smiles and 22lber

George Brack and Dale Corman wanted in on the action to, so they produced respectable 20+’s

The fish of the trip went to Luke Norman with this beauty 34lb Tyee on the 3rd day.

We have to give it up for Luke for choosing to release the lovely specimen, back to the salt and hopefully on to make more just like him.

Mean While Chef Derek was lighting it up in the Kitchen

The Duck was a smash hit

It was another great trip with the guys helping support the Pacific Salmon Foundation. Bob has been an active member for a long time and it’s good to see his passion for fishing, and Salmon reverberate through the group.

Up next we had the return of Mr Jeff Clarke and the Young Presidents Organization.Back for his second trip of the year already, Jeff brought an eager team and they got to work immediately. Filling out the lodge we had the return of the Hudson/ Dawson group with a few new additions. Here we have said additions , Dave Rutherford and Paul Joyce enjoying the bite at Gillan Point. The fishing at Gillan has been absolutely killer so far this year. It might even make the milk run.

Not to be shown up, we have the Scotsman Duncan McNaughton and Lorne Grey with a furious series of events that eventually lead to a final victory…complete with battle calls

Back at the dock, former Rugby player Duncan shows off a nice pair in the mid 20’sThe fish of this trip had to go to Peter Murphy. Apparently, on the way in after a full day, Guide Carl had to talk Peter into stopping in the bay for 1 pass before they were off to the hot tub. Well good thing he did, because about 2 minutes later they hooked into this 35lb Tyee and took the trip derby.

Never one’s to be out shown, The Hudson brothers Tyler and Joe and the Dawson’s, Ted and Dan put in a solid showing going for full days and coming back with full tub

Joe has even perfected the subtle art of boat poses

Back at the dock, Paul Joyce shows us how much he love the Hali fishing.

Meanwhile David Duncan shows us his favourite Bass picture style

That’s the update for now, fishing has been hot, and ground fish has been on fire. I’ve never seen so many large Lingcod around as I have this early season. The fish board is currently looking very promising

Until next report, keep those rollers spinningCheers,Jordan
