OP Report: Tyees and Steady Seas – July 8, 2022
July 8, 2022 | 1763 Views
It’s been another great week at The Outpost! Guests are coming and going with big smiles, with unforgettable experiences being made daily here in Port Louis.
Week 4, and the month of June, have come to an end, and we’ve seen another 4 tyees caught and released – the happy guests being Steve O., Jamie P., Jeff G. and Paul S. Congratulations! Steve O. (Guide Mike) sporting a big smile and showing off his Tyee before releasing it. We are always appreciative of our conservation-minded guests for doing their part to keep fish wet! Check out the blue skies behind these eager anglers.
Fishing has remained steady as we continue to see some nice nice fish in the mid-twenties arriving back at the dock. The weather has been typical of Haida Gwaii, changing almost hourly on some days, and always keeping guides and guests guessing. But you know what they say, rain or shine there’s nothing like fishing to pass the time.
With that said… we do particularly enjoy nights like the one pictured below.Port Louis sunsets are certainly something special.
We show a lot of fishing pictures but thought for those of you interested in how things are done on the west side, a few pictures of the OP that people don’t usually see might be a nice change! The Outpost interior team, Sarah, Vicky and Shaun, eagerly awaiting the arrival of guests. It all starts with the first choppers arrival to our floating helipad. Incoming guests headed up the dock – we can see the smiles from here!WCFC staff member, Sarah, ready to welcome the new and returning faces. Incoming guests are also welcomed by a beautiful assortment of charcuterie, prepared by our culinary team. One of our latest groups looking on at the newcomers, wishing they could do it all over again. Another beautiful sunset, with a great view of our 22ft Boston Whaler fleet.
The fish have been keeping anglers busy out on the water, but The Outpost lodge is the perfect place to unwind, share a fishing tale, and enjoy a drink with good company. Enjoy an apres-fish cocktail on the patio with views of Port Louis.
Head Chef Stjepan Balan and his culinary team continue to impress the guests with signature dishes such as miso cod with wasabi rice and bison braised short ribs.Dessert anyone?
Well, that’s all for now. Check back soon for another update from us here at the OP.
In the meantime, tight lines my friends,

The Outpost has always been one of my favourite. I particularly liked the catches out at Freeman rocks.
Tight lines and smooth seas to you all……… Ben
