Navigating the Waters: How to Get a Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence

July 2, 2024

A Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence is essential for any angler intending to fish in the ocean (saltwater). Additionally, a salmon conservation stamp must be affixed to licences for those wishing to retain any species of Pacific salmon. We ask our guests to purchase their licences and salmon conservation stamps before arriving at the lodge. If you have any difficulties obtaining your licence, please contact our Guest Services team.

How To Purchase Your Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence

The federal government has implemented an electronic licensing system available 24/7. You can easily purchase your Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence directly through the Government of Canada website or by contacting our Guest Services Team.

What to Purchase

Whether you're a resident or a non-resident, various options accommodate different fishing preferences and durations.

  • Resident Fishing Licence: Canadian residents are eligible to purchase a Resident Fishing Licence. We recommend the Canadian Resident 5-Day Pacific Licence, along with the Salmon Stamp.
  • Non-Resident Fishing Licence: Guests visiting Canada can purchase a Non-Resident Fishing Licence. We suggest the Non-Resident 5-Day Pacific Licence, along with the Salmon Stamp.

For avid BC anglers, there is also an option to purchase a resident or non-resident annual licence, valid from April 1st of the current year to March 30th of the following year.

Retention Limits

Both The Clubhouse and The Outpost are located in fishing Area 1. Retention regulations are subject to change. Please check the Tidal Waters regulations for the most up-to-date information here.

Understanding the Limits

  • Daily limit: The maximum number of a given fish species that a person is allowed to keep in one day.
  • Possession limit: The maximum number of fish you can have in your possession at any given time, except for what is at your ordinary residence.

Identifying Your Catch

We will assist you every step of the way in identifying your catch. For guided anglers, our guide staff are experts at identifying all the fish species you will be targeting on our fishing adventure. For self-guided anglers, our dock staff and Fish Master are available to answer any questions and ensure your catch record remains accurate.

WCFC targets several Salmon species – primarily Chinook and Coho, as well as Chum, Pink, and Sockeye. Along with that, we target some groundfish: primarily Pacific Halibut and Lingcod (groundfish). You can learn more about identifying your catch on the Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) website.
