As we head into our final month of the season we have seen some great fishing and great weather to go along with it. In the beginning of August the DFO amended the regulations in our area back to the historical 2 per day, 4 per trip for chinook salmon. Along with that, we've has a strong run of making their way down the west side.
The chinook fishing has remained fairly steady, starting from the beginning of season, and I've had multiple guests talking about this being some of the best salmon fishing they have seen in recent years. As a result of the strong salmon runs and increase in limits, there's been a continuous trend of high teen to mid twenties chinook hitting the dock.
Short runs to the fishing grounds mean our anglers are spending more time with their lines in the water, and lucky for us, there has been some amazing fishing right outside the lodge this season.The Outpost is 40 nautical kilometers away from any other fishing lodge, meaning we have the water all to ourselves out here. Relax and take in the beauty of Haida Gwaii; with amazing fishing and spectacular surroundings, it's easy to understand why the Outpost has so many returning guests each year.
The days are shorter in August, but we've seen a positive change in the weather - blue skies and amazing sunsets.
The experience of Haida Gwaii and the remoteness of the Outpost is hard to capture in just a few photos, but I can assure you it is certainly worth the trip. This view never gets old.
