NIL Report: Fish, Weather & Good Times - July 5, 2019

July 5, 2019

Our week here at North Island started off in measurable fashion with fish, weather, and of course good times! Hot fishing spots were Gunia Point as well as regular favourites in Coho and Andrew’s Point. We had a lot of teeners caught among the three day stretch and continued to see some coho showing up between eight to eleven pounds.

Guide Bryce Belyea and guests off to the fishing grounds. D.J. Shinduke continued his guiding legacy this weekend by recording a tyee per day with three separate guests on three consecutive days. Largest of them all was angled by Jacklyn Payment (35lbs) followed by Matt Dearle (34lbs) and Susan Vaillant (31lbs). These anglers were all apart of an exciting Mott Electric group and we’re lucky enough to cycle through D.J.'s vessel on the right days. Other big fish honourable mentions go out to Max Kuehling (27lb), Christina Masef (28lb), and RobertMortlock (28lb).

Never a dull moment on D.J.'s boat with the Mott Electric group. Our following four day trip saw some impressive numbers caught by some self guided and guided boats. Chinook and coho were being caught offshore off Coho Point, Andrews Point, and Boulder Bay as we see it starting to come alive. D.J. continued a hot streak into this trip by guiding long-time self guided guest Christina Masef into a 34lb chinook out of Bruin Bay - her first-ever caught at that fishing location! The other tyee caught this trip was by angler Steve Stevens alongside guide Morgan Johnston who has been on a roll as well. Other notable chinook were caught by Dave Eto (29lb) and returning self guide Ryan Molitwenik (27lb and 26lb).
