CH Report: Calm Seas, Sunny Skies & Tyees - August 8, 2018

Calm seas and sunny skies were the theme this trip, with oodles of coho and six or seven tyee in the mix.We are more in a typical summer pattern once again, the wind has died to nothing and with flat calm seas we are again able to move around and locate fish. The coho are larger now, I just got off the water and saw Jarod skipping down the dock with a rather large 17.5 lb coho. He was yelling NORTHERN!Below is a pic of a good effort by Kimberly Buck with a very nice 25 lb chinook. She was fishing out west with Tom Chambers and guide Simon.

A nice chinook for Norm Pitcher. Our current trip has seen a small wave of tyees push through. Bud's guest Bing Gruffunder has top fish of the trip so far, measuring 38 lbs, a nice picture of the fish before release taken by Bud!

Bing Gruffunder and a beautiful 38 lb release. The same afternoon I was fishing with Jollean Hancen and John Simpson. We found a tyee measuring 33 lbs deep in Boulder, in 25 feet of water, no lions on Sunday! Here are a couple pictures of Jollean's fish. We only had four bites but landed two nice chinook. Same for Bud, two bites and two great fish released in his boat.

Jollean and myself release 33 lbs deep in Boulder.Brent had a nice 34 lb tyee I saw released for Doug Gowland in the same area. So there were some pushing through on Sunday. Great weather as you can see as well.Monday was relatively quiet in the am, we were all searching for chinook and avoiding mammals. We skipped out to the Bowel at 10 am and grabbed back to back chinook in the 20 lb class, but there was not much backing the fish up. I did hear. Bud released another 30 lb fish out there. Here are a couple pics of the weather and chinooks we found out in the Bowel.

John Simpson and Jollean with a couple decent chinook out in the Bowel.Meanwhile up past NONAME it is a deep show for chinook and the coho are deep as well, 125 feet plus for the combo, although I am dragging a two ounce weight having lots of fun with coho 12 and 13 lbs. the chinook are smaller here, in the teens but there has been constant consistent bites. Lucy patrolling the lions. So to summarize, the fishing is good here at Langara. The chinook come and go but at this time they are here in some numbers, and the coho fishing is very good. I heard we are at eight tyee for the trip, so this will turn out to be the biggest tyee trip so far this year.
