CH Report: The Fish Are Still Biting! - Sept 12, 2019

September 16, 2019

Chinooks, Coho, and halibut fishing continue to be the story well into Sept. here at Langara. The weather gave us a huge break as we have enjoyed almost two weeks of sunshine and calm seas. Bonus, the fish are still biting.

Myself (Mike Tonnesen, Screamer), Lucy and Dyane Legge enjoying the beautiful September weather. Most of the chinook fishery is being conducted on Shawn's Highway, fishing both shallow and deep. One fish coming up from 130 feet, the next 25 pulls out the back. The bite seems to be happening when the tides slow down. A lot of water is moving out there and you have to keep an eye on your cables, weird currents can get your gear in a mess rather quickly.Added bonus, troll caught halibut! Some keepers, some to large to retain, such as this 138 centimetre job grabbed on a mooching rod, bouncing bottom.

Releasing this nice hali. All the guides seem to be getting the job done with the halibut, most heading west. I have done well dragging deep and keeping busy with a variety of sizes and shapes. The chinook fishery is better than last year at this point in time. We are fishing relatively easy hours and grabbing nice chinook into the low twenties, most 16 to 22 lbs.Below are a couple photos of Dyane Legge with a couple of her fish we grabbed the last couple days up at Second Rock. We were busy and we were catching.

Dyane Legge with a nice September chinook.

A nice pair of chinook for the ladies yesterday, well played! We also trolled up this very nice halibut, bonus! On the mooching rod, no clumsy hali rods and heavy weights, good times.

A big hali for Dyane trolling on the highway!Yesterday we grabbed Derek and his wife, Kristie and headed out at the crack of ten. We did not drop the third rod before we grabbed this double header of fine Sept Chinook, Derek showed me he can fish as well as sell a trip! Moments later Dyane again hooked up and successfully angled a nice chinook, that's three chinook in 15 minutes! The gang with three nice chinook in mid September.

The gang with a nice morning's catch from second rock.So here we go, last trip for 2019. Things look positive and we are looking forward to finishing off with a bang and angling a few more chinook and of course a halibut or two.

Lucy keeping an eye out for pinnepeds!Stand by for a trip wrap up, a season wrap up and whatever photos I can dig up. Now, off to the grounds, time to catch a spring salmon.Goodnight from the Clubhouse, Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
