Panama dead ahead
April 25, 2011Panama Update: Next stop Colon, Panama! 125 miles dead ahead, we should be there by 10:30 am tomorrow (Tuesday April 25th). Here is a quick review of our path…
Captain Larry plots our location each day at noon, see the last circle a few inches above the end of the line…that was us today. He then calculates our arrival based on distance and speed so the canal knows when to expect us.
I’m on watch again with first mate Chris and talking fishing…we’ve been at sea for 8 days and sometimes forget why we’re making this journey. Now that the dream is one day closer to reality lets remind ourselves of where we’re going…
…were heading to fishing paradise BABY! Above is a Panamanian Striped marlin, below is the same…
…all caught and released of course…this is going to be fun.
“What else Chris…what can the Pacific Provider provide?”
…how about a few Dorado…
Alright!
Coming to think of it since we left Screamer in charge of the lines out back (today) we haven’t caught anything…those Langara Island guides loose their confidence out here in the big blue, they get a little frazzled, for us Outpostians…its just another day.
What else can we fish for?…
Rooster fish…I HAVE to try that before heading to Port Louis for the summer. Pound for pound its one of the best inshore game fish around… “a lot of fight on them” Chris reminds me. Ok, what else…
Amber Jacks… “this one was caught with a butterfly jig and then BENDO, he was pinned to the rail”…I’m not sure what language Chris is using but he conveys an excitement in that cool californian accent that makes me want to catch one.
How about one more…
What in the world is that?
“Some kind of Pargo but I’m not sure which one it is…basically a big Cubera snapper”
Ahhh ok…my takeaway is the ocean always has a few surprises in store for us. But we already knew that from 20 years in the fishing biz up north.
Stay tuned, we’ve got a film crew coming, the crossing of the Canal, a party in Panama city on May 4th and then set sail for Punta Coco on the 5th…first guests arrive on May 8th and a new chapter of the WCFC begins…are you going to be apart of it?
