The Clubhouse Report: August 3, 2011

Golden week continues here at Langara, the Hippas are here, yellow dotters in numbers! 27 tyee for the trip, six over 40 lbs, top fish a 48 lb Chinook, yes, this is the time to grab a monster here at the Clubhouse.

The concentration of Hippas has been in the Gunia area, and today, the largest of these monster chinook was caught and released by guide Brent, a 48 lber, angled by Jesse Bernal. They were fishing an offshore tack at Coneehaw Rock when they grabbed her. Ryan and his guests were out there too, fishing in the deep and grabbed a great tote full, one a 35 lber for Guy Colporn. Rosarie Archambault had a pair of tyees, 34 and 35, and his son Phillipe had a 31....fishing with Korey. Dunne found a 35 for Ron St Amand which was released, nice job guys.

The Fritzlers were fishing with a veteran self guided, Jack Giffen, and Jack put them into a 30 lber for Evelyn, and a 33 for Byron. John Fader had a 33 with guide Bryce, and his partner Brian Taylor had a 33, nice fishing for sure. Mark Hill retained a 41 self guided, wow, there's one! Buderico put his guest Andre St. Denis into three tyee, a 44 , 36 and 32!

These are just some of the tyee for the trip, amazing fishing and tyees are here for sure. This is the time to treat every fish with respect, you never know when a monster will roll behind your boat, and one must be ready. Check your leader, are the hooks sharp? Do you have a full spool of line on your reel? How about retying your knots? There are monsters in the pass, Gunia is producing Hippas every tide, Boulder is pumping them out, Bruin has the odd 60 lber swimming by, so be ready, born ready, game on here at Langara.

Sea Lions are ever present, did a quick count tonight, 158 sitting on MacPherson Point...many with commercial flashers attached to they're fangs. I am amazed at how aggressive they are this year, and as a diver working this spring out on the herring, was grabbed twice by adult males, always fun times. Nothing like being dragged and rag dolled by a 1500 lb rock dog, builds character I suppose. These Lions must be respected when releasing fish over the side of the boat, all to possible having ones arm grabbed, now that is a bad day.

Weather has been great, flat calm, easy fishing right now. Other than some kelp issues, the tack is fantastic, and productive. We are all getting tyees, so I hope things continue on here and August proves to be a huge month in here. The guides are chomping to get you out there, everyone is on them, all boats producing.
