The Clubhouse Report: August 13, 2011

August 14, 2011

Saturday night here at the Club, lots of noise, a full house, and a lot of happy guests. The guides are all huddled around the TV watching Deadliest Catch, Hans is stocking a roaring fire, yes tonight is proving to be a great evening.

We had six tyee on the trip, today's highlights provided by a self guided boat, Sebastian Periera, who fished Lacy, and snuck a 43 lb king and a 30 lb king over the side. On the ride up the hill he told me they were mooching, 37 pulls in a 165 feet of water. Nice going and a great pair of tyee.

Bud tripped over a 37 with Sean Feinstein at the REEF, Sean has two 37 lbers for the trip. Bud grunted thanks when I told him well done. The REEF was slow today, the very odd fish coming out of there.

I fished with Brad Nelson, and we struggled early at Gunia, having our only monster shanked by a self guided boat from another camp, so after I had a good pout, and a small pity party, I headed out to Lacy where Dunne or Dunn said they were hitting a few. We arrived to see fish Hooking up, but a bit of bad luck was chasing us. I never got a fish to 10 am, kill me! Our first fish screamed off the rigger, but no, it stopped and sulked, okay, a halibut on a salmon rod. Brad carefully managed to winch the monster up, and yes, I netted a 58 lb halibut, now that is a deadliest catch. The thing went mental, and Brad had to bring er aboard for me. We fished 5 hours on the pick for a hali yesterday, only grabbing one 83 lber. Brad found it way more fun on the salmon gear, well done. We dropped again deep and picked off a 25 lb spring, nice.

The afternoon was a wet one in here, and again we ended up out at Lacy, where Brad scooped a low twenties Spring and we started grabbing big coho again, largest at 14 pounds. We were fishing deep and the fish were biting, so a nice ending to the trip.

Tomorrow looks promising out west, weather is flat calm out there, so if the fish cooperate I will have a full report, thanks for checking in.
