The Clubhouse Report June 26 ~ “Lots of fish, heaps of bites!”
June 27, 2014 | 2334 Views
The sun is shining tonight, weather spectacular and fish biting here at Langara. We have just concluded trip 7 and today a new group has arrived to test the waters in search of the elusive tyee.
We have three tyee to report for our efforts on the last trip. Hans dug out the top fish at 40 lbs which was released out at Mac. The top fish retained was taken by Mike Stansbury weighing in at 39 lbs and that fish was flapped in my face out at Andrews. This fish was pulled out of the kelp and caught at 35 feet on the wire. Mike has been fishing here with MIke Throne for maybe 20 years, and always seems to dig a tyee out. His son Todd has a 60 under his belt!
The fishing was crazy on Tuesday, so many chinooks, stacked like cordwood. Most of em were 14 to 17 but I am telling you, almost to many, could walk on they’re backs in Egeria Bay. The better fish were 20 to 25 lbs, but you shook off 20 fish for every 20 plus retained.
The coho are here in decent numbers as well. These fish are weighing in at 6 to 10 lbs, the retained ones seem to average close to 9 lbs.
Congratulations to Drew at NIL for his guided 55 lb fish, not yo many of these this season, each lodge up here now has a 50 plus. Our top fish is 53, NIL has the 55! Next door has a 56, and at the bottom of the hill they grabbed a 52 yesterday. So a few around but a grind for the big boys at this point.
Southeasters tomorrow forecasted, so hang on to the hats. This storm might shoot some tyees into our local waters with any luck. So hopefully I will have something exciting to tell you this weekend. Darcy Doyle is in the house, so look out, could be a tyee beat down about to happen at Gunia.
Goodnight from the Clubhouse.
