OP Report: Summer's On! - July 9, 2018

Summer’s OnBy Jordan Knight

The summer has hit and we are in full swing here in Port Louis.

After a slower start than usual, the fishing has picked up incredibly and we are enjoying beautiful sunny days with North West winds and bait being blown in regularly.

We have had some epic days on the water lately. The crew made it down to Hippa recently, and it did not disappoint. Dropping in Selvesson has produced very good fish with a smattering of nice tyees in the mix.

Recently we welcomed back the boys from BOEING, and the weather and fishing lined up to make for an amazing weekend experience.

Here we have Brad McMullen and Rich Steer working the sholes in Danger Bay to pick up a nice one.

Meanwhile Craig drew making guide Andy work for the fish of the chicken patch.

Not to be out done by Sam with her first victory of the season

Mark thought this might count towards smallest kept fish.

John Kirby & Mike Wilson enjoying the halibut harvest

Wouldn’t you know it, after spending some quality trolling the patch, John Kirby and I picked up this little 41lb beauty.

After an epic 25 minute battle, we boated this specimen, got our picture and managed to get perfect release, not a scale missing. That’s what we live for. I’m so glad that our guests have embraced the need for conservation and are so keen to let these fish go back have a chance at breeding.

Back at the lodge, Brad and Mike were busy dolling out the rewards for biggest and smallest.

Jude Bricker And Tom Doxey receiving their salmon skin wallets for smallest retained chinook and halibut.

Rich and John Receiving their Yeti Tundra 65 coolers for largest Salmon and halibut. Does anyone else notice something constant in these photos? I’m not sure Jon Stephens has won anything, but he sure seems happy.

We said goodbye to BOEING and welcomed back a mixed bag of returning and new guests.

Returning we had Nick Canter and Daughter Jessica, Rod Follwell and his son Matt, as well WCFC owner Rick Grange, His wife Jody and her son Ian.

It didn’t take long for the bar to be raised.

Here is Matt Follwell with Guide Hanes showing off this epic 43lb Tyee release in Danger Bay.

What an amazing experience to catch this almost within sight of the lodge.

Up next we have the Delta group headed by Mr Tony Hi and Bruce Langereis.

The group started up with a bit of wind, but have been enjoying the best weather of the season with cloudless skies and light winds.

Along for the trip is renowned Bone fishing guide and lodge owner Prescott Smith. The son of Crazy Charlie Smith, he is the first Bahamian to own a fishing lodge in the Bahamas.

Right off the bat we had Steve Merritt catch and release a beauty 33.5lb tyee of Selvesson reef

Of course not to be out done, Prescott catching and releasing his very own 31.5lb tyee and receiving his first coveted tyee pin.

Chad Clarke back at the dock. As well as being the manager of Hawksworth's restaurants, I hear from a little bird that Chad has the voice of an angel.

Back at the Lodge, Prescott was giving everybody so lessons on real flycasting. I have to say, getting instruction from such a legend of the tropical fly casting world was a real treat.

Chad still has a bit to learn yet

Even Heidi was getting lesson from the lovely Abba on paddleboarding 101

That’s it for the update for now. Check back in as we detail the amazing weather and good fortunes here in Port Louis

Cheers for now.Jordan
