North Island Lodge Update August 21’st ~ “Sunshine & Chinook Salmon!”
August 21, 2014 | 2610 Views
The beautiful August weather we have been experiencing at North Island continues as this recent stretch has been unreal. All the guests are getting into good numbers of Chinooks, Cohos, and Sockeyes are jumping everywhere and we are even getting some taking the cut plug herrings on the surface. The guides are also encountering a few sharks out on the grounds and GM Todd McIntyre reports that he even witnessed one swim right up to the dock during the evening while the guides were cleaning fish.
A few big fish to report with the first with guide Brent Gallagher, who was not to be outdone, and produced a 55 pound tyee for longtime guest and avid angler Mike Murphy who travels all over the coast and this is his largest tyee release to date. Way to go boys!
Next up we have Al and Amy Norris who brought along a lot of their own hardware for this trip, spoons and plugs, that produced this 36 pounder guided by DJ. Great couple shot!
Last picture for this report is of Steve Kilgor and his 45 pound release with guide Jacob. Always a pleasure being able to send these ones back!
We would also like to report that two of our self-guided guests, Dan and Colleen Crawford, were also getting in on the big fish program as they caught and released a 40 pound Chinook. Special thanks to Clubhouse guide Shawn Crawford for verification on this catch.
On that Halibut front, Isser Rogowski & Gabe Milton combined for a 120 pound Halibut release out on the grounds and opted to take home a smaller one that they caught when they ventured out to the east side – perfect size filets for the frying pan.
Got a good feeling about the last few weeks here pushing to the end of the season!
