North Island Lodge Report: August 6, 2007

August 6, 2007

Beal Cove also known on early charts as BEALE’S HARBOUR, the name given it by William Douglas in 1789 is the home of North Island Lodge. Douglas is said to have taken his first stroll on the Charlottes at this cove and is credited for being the second white man know to set foot on the soil of the Queen Charlotte Islands. This is a special place with a wealth of history. The geographical features of the cove are the same today as they were when William Douglas took his first stroll 218 years ago!

Our August 6 – 10 guest group didn’t waste any time establishing history and new seasonal benchmarks. Christina Masef released 43 lb & 47 lb Chinooks on the same day….outstanding Christina! Evonne Loftus released a 32 lb Spring and Mike Rover released a 33 lb Spring. Tyee pins were also awarded to Mark Gosnold – 33 lbs, Richard Masef - 32.5 lbs, Rex Hopkins – 34 lbs, Bill Cargill – 31 lbs, Peter Shorett – 35.5 lbs, and Jason Gallelli – 37 lbs. Bill Cargill also set a new seasonal record for the largest coho caught – 15 lbs. A record breaking 2,045 lbs of Halibut was caught and Robert Motte had the largest catch with his 205 lb Hali….wow it’s no wonder why they all went to bed so early!

The always fun Bosa group spent the August 10 - 13 weekend enjoying sunshine, comradeship, good fishing and finding their way through an adventurous shroud of fog. John Smart – 30 lbs, Mike Kask - 31 lb’s, Paul Bosa – 32 lb’s and Walter Gazzola - 33.5 lb’s were all awarded Tyee pins. Chef Walter delighted everyone with his culinary expertise and our Head Housekeeper Robyn mastered the art of card dealing. Combined the group caught 68 Springs ranging in size from 21 lbs to 34 lbs….now that’s fantastico!
