CH Report: Excellent Fishing Across the Board - July 28, 2022

July 28, 2022

A foggy morning here at LANGARA, I am sitting here waiting for our next guests to arrive and have a few minutes to bang out a quick report. The sun is peaking through the fog up here in the Clubhouse, so we will be out on the grounds shortly I suspect.

Fishing is now what I would rate as excellent, with all species present and on the bite. The Coho fishing has been very good, all along the east side of Langara, from 30 feet to 230 lol. Yes bottom bouncing for hali is producing plenty Coho. Springs as well, not to mention Chum and Pinks. You will be busy, promise.

That said, what a lot of guests and seasoned anglers are looking for is the big Chinook, the prized species here at Langara. The tyee, a Chinook over thirty pounds, in most cases caught and released when the fish is healthy. These specimens are harder to locate this season here at LANGARA. The 18 to 26lbers are plentiful though, and that is what guides refer often to as our bread and butter. We are hearing of the odd large tyee, but we are yet to find them in our local spots. We have confirmed a 66lb monster was guided down at Port Louis at the OUTPOST. The guides are reporting a very nice run down there close to camp, so congrats to the gang there.

This past ten days or so has been steady enough in my boat, and we did find a tyee fishing with KAREN and MARK, pictured above. After a long day out there, this is a great place to relax , yes the lodge is very comfortable.

Next up I had Juergen and Alexander S. father and son and we hit all species pretty hard, yes, we targeted large chinook once again, and we found many fish 18 to 26 lbs. below are a few nice pics of some happy guests and some nice chinook.

Above is Alexander with his top chinook, 25lbs.

Juergen had one request other than a monster tyee, one Halibut, troll caught, for his favorite recipe, Halibut ceviche. We bottom bounced everywhere and caught everything….17 ling one morning, Chum, medium Chinook, boatload of Coho. Where are the Halibut? Did DJ troll all the chickens up? Finally at 6:25 pm, last session, we had a large Halibut on the line, and are now set to have ceviche for the winter.

Yes …hard work pays off, 131 cm long.

Brent fished along side us for four days and grabbed the largest tyee of trip with guest PAT, pictured below.

Now that is a beauty right there. Note the fog, it is that time of year. Brent reports oodles of decent Chinook hitting his boat, happily releasing the large fish for future anglers to enjoy and keep the gene pool going.

There’s always time for a quick nap on my boat lol, Lucy does enjoy all my guests.

Paul forwarded the above pic of a couple of his guests enjoying some success out west this week.

Rain or shine its a blast out on the grounds targeting these fish. You will be pleasantly surprised at the sheer amount of bites from all species in all locations. This is a special place to fish, your lines are in the water 10 minutes from the dock. We fish with light rods and cut plug herring here, no main line flashers. We sport fish lol. We are about the total experience, whether a new angler or well seasoned like the anglers pictured above. The guides here are so looking forward to showing you this area, teaching you our techniques, in safe comfortable boats. Personally, I am looking forward to the kelp beds in tight this afternoon, dreaming of 60 lbers and anticipating the next massive monster bite.

Thanks for checking in,

Mike Tonnesen
