It was the beginning of July and we had the pleasure of hosting the wonderful Kaltenegger family up at The Clubhouse for our July 6 to 10 trip. Every trip to our remote corner of the world is special when you get an opportunity to experience one of the last remaining wild places on our planet, however this trip was especially memorable for Samantha Kaltenegger who caught and released a once in a lifetime 44 pound tyee. Any Chinook over 30 pounds is a trophy fish that anglers return year after year in search of, but a 40+ is even more difficult to catch and a great achievement for any angler. It was a slower day for Chinooks, so guide Korey Fletcher decided to head down off the Jalun River in search of some Cohos. So there they were trolling around for Coho's when all of the sudden this hog hit the bait and screamed out half the reel.....immediately everyone knew this was not a Coho. The fish then cartwheeled out of the water and the hook found its way into the side of the fish and now the battle was on! Korey says Samantha was awesome on the rod and fought the fish for one hour like a true natural angler before Korey slipped the net around it. After a couple pics, an excited Fletcher released the tyee and it swam off full of energy. The fish turned out to be the fish of the trip and the largest to date in Korey's sled.Congrats to Samantha and Korey on a great catch and release!
