Fishing at The OP is still spectacular, it is getting on in the season but each guest got their fill on Chinook and Coho today! Some boats ventured further south and some stayed close to home, but both slayed the fish.
The morning started out a little lumpy with a big swell but not much wind and no rain which is a plus!
The Chinook were ferocious, whatever the guides put down on the riggers, they came up with a fish on! Here is Casey with a nice Tyee, 30lbs on the nose!!!
John latched into this pig, it looks monstrous!! Must be the help from the fisheye lens on the GoPro, either way it didn’t trick the scale and tipped the needle to just over 31lbs!! Nice one!!!
On top of the nice Tyee, John and his fishing partner Greg caught a couple perfect halis.
Here the Neal, Carl and Jeff show off the boat load they brought back to the dock! The biggest caught by Neal, a 31lber! Most of the fish on this boat were caught on what was dubbed the “Carl Jr.”(as seen with the arrows) Carl found this plug while beach combing and took the spray paint too it, greens, yellows, whites, reds, scales, dots. I think it should be called the “Kitchen Sink”…. hang on a second, there is a Coyote spoon called the “Kitchen Sink”…. I guess the “Carl Jr.” will have to do!!
Jack got this beauty, it will be nice on the BBQ this fall!!
More Sun Fish have been spotted in the past couple of days! I think all of the guides have seen a combined total of 10 this year!! It must be the warm water that has been hanging around for the past month or so that is bringing them in.
Check out the snaggle tooth on this Chinook, it must be getting clost to the river it wanted to spawn in!! These chompers are INSANE!!!
Some beauty slabs of meat are in the freezers ready to be taken home….
Other fish are on ice, like these ones directly above, which will be sent to Haida Wild for smoking or to be chunked up. Either way this group has some delicious fish to enjoy over the winter!!
