The Outpost~~ Winning on all fronts!!

August 4, 2013

The first day The OP is always quite unique experience, flying in from Masset over desolate tundra like land…..

IMGP3190

To landing on the helipad and making the trek up the dock for the first time.

Then to the gear….. “How do I put this life jacket on?” is one of the most frequently asked questions on the first morning. Gwen is always ready and willing to lend a helping hand.

The weather has fortunately turned for the better, the fish are stacked like cord wood and the sun is shining!!Merv landed this 22lber with the helpful hand from Sammy.

Alastair battled this fish for quite some time; it weighed in at 28lbs, a very respectable fish! For those of you frequent blog followers, the person beside Alastair is Big Carl with no facial hair and a fresh haircut! He took some time off and headed to the big city for the week. We hardly recognized him when he got of the helicopter!

Jason tied todays biggest retained Chinook with another nice 28lber, it looks like a 40!!!.

Grant retained this 20lber, check out the scrapes down the side of the salmon. The scales were all missing and some serious teeth marks were very evident. We think either a sea lion or an Orca!!

Bob and Alastair said they were fishing today but I think they were really putting their feet up and catching a few rays!

Louise, John and Myles were on a serious fishing mission, loads of fish to the boat today which resulted in some great shots. Check these images out.

A MONSTER Salmon Shark took half of this mid 20s Chinook in one chomp!

Myles, in the heat of the chaos, decided to try to hook the shark……

DSCF0859

He put a circle hook into the shark eaten Chinook and hoped for the best. The shark took the bait and went on one thunderous charge/leap out of the water and won the battle. It sliced the leader within 10 seconds of hooking up. From what I have heard, round two is tomorrow. Cable leaders and sharper hooks!

Ivan, Claire and John had a great day with Ol’ Yeller. Lots of great fish caught and loads of sun!! A few perfect smaller halibut and a nice fill of salmon. The one who took the cake for the biggest fish was Don with a 32 pound Tyee. The best part is that they put it back in the water to swim another day. Nice work on the release! Here at The OP we are winning on all fronts, great fishing, AMAZING hot weather and.... Ummm I can't remember what the last thing I wanted to tell you was....Oooo yeah I forgot, I won in KRUD again!!!!Over and Out from the OPMarky Mark
