OUTPOST UPDATE: A peek inside and out today starting with winds that were gusting over 30 knots, not ideal for Ronne and Bryan who were busy trying to nail down a roof. Here’s a shot of the trees bending to the will of the North West

I had to lean into the wind today so most of the following shots came out on an angle. It wasn’t good for my little feathered friend who chose to not come and visit. A special thanks to Jenni Ludvigson of Victoria, Dave Durrant of Tswassen, Greg Cloud of Olympia, WA and John of parts unspecified for identifying the bird as a Red Breasted Sapsucker – GenusSphyrapicus rubber. Dave helped point out that:

“They usually drill parallel lines of wells that fill up with sap that attracts insects that provide some extra protein for the sapsuckers.”

I’ve inspected the trees and you are absolutely correct. Now back to the wind…

which curled into the bay…on the positive side; the nor-westerns bring in the fish so I’m expecting good things for opening day.

On the inside the Chefs were refining the menu and pairing wines, here are a few mouth watering tid bits…

Chef Michael slices his Porchetta; it’s the pork loin and belly rolled together and seasoned with spices (secret to the OP kitchen), the pig was raised naturally in the Fraser valley and roasted to a “crisp crackling”…ohh boy. Its part of your breakfast buffet on arrival at the lodge…unless I eat it all before you get here.

If you look closely enough I think you can pick up the aromas…

Next up…

A little slice of home made corned beef brisket, on tasting this all I could say…

“Oh my God what the heck was that!”…I was stunned how delicious it was. Pardon my blasphemy.

As a little snack when you come in…spiced homemade popcorn (Michael won’t tell me how he makes it)…

and promptly removed it after the photograph…apparently I’m earning a reputation!

In the sprit of wild foods…

A selection of mushrooms and seaweeds that you’ll find throughout the menu this summer.

After dinner pick up a cue and take a couple of shots, everything is ready…

I’ll be back on kilter and taking straight photos tomorrow.
