OUTPOST UPDATE: Look at that water…

We haven’t had any sun this summer but LOOK…flat calm! We could have some stellar days ahead! Changeover at the OP had lots of surprises including a barge from Vancouver. I don’t get many gift packages (other than the odd treat from a secret admirer on NIL, she calls herself Bertha) but today I got a present from WCFC builder/engineer/fix it guy Roger Pearcy…

A 5 tonne chunk of concrete to call my own…Thanks Roger!
That’s me on the dock brimming with excitement…

“Hey ken where do you want us to put this?”

Easy now, a little further…ok, how about right there…

Dropping anchors isn’t an exact science…

Don’t worry guys, I’ll just get it later…

Did someone remember to tie a rope onto that?
Fishing continues to be productive and first timer Jeff caught the largest Chinook today at 35 pounds…he was happy just sitting in the boat admiring his catch, I think he’s still down there…

What a beauty. Keith and Don (Vetran anglers) had a nice haul but lost a beauty to “guide error” today when fishing with “Mclovin”…in all his years of fishing Don said:
“I’ve lost lots of fish beside the boat but never lost one out of the net”
We’re all about first experiences here Don, congrats…

Next up the father son duo of Severin and Trevor brought home the only hali of the day at 50 pounds…

While Keith got himself a tyee…

And John sent a special message home while weighing in the 3rd 30+ chinook of the day…

So there’s good fishing to be had and fun antics on the dock. JP showed off his new invention (cut bull kelp…which is hollow) to assist his gentleman guests while relieving themselves without “hanging” over the edge…

Very ingenious JP, notice the hand stabilizer technique on the downrigger. And Whitney “New Boots” wanted a photo with her “jacket twin” Pierre…

Apparently Whitney’s (and Rydell’s) grandmother is a big fan of the blog and wrote in:
“Some of the pictures of you two makes it look like a real fun place to spend the summer...............so many guys and so many fish.”

To which Whitney replied:
“hmmm…no great catches grandma”
Thanks a lot New Boots!
I’ll end tonight with a special thanks to Linda and Gary Grant who left all the staff a little something after their fishing trip…

Nothing misses the keen eye of the paparazzi!

Thus concludes another adventure on the west side of Haida Gwaii.
