A Story of Persistence: I was out on the water today and it was glorious. The sun was out and it felt like summer…not a common thing on the north coast. The seas were moderate with a swell from the south and a wind from the north and the fishing was good enough to keep us entertained. It was a first for me and for Tim Davison from Texas…Tim runs 6 miles a day in 40 degree heat, races three marathons a year and in his own words can’t last 10 minutes on the water. Despite the patches and pills Tim struggled keeping his stomach…BUT he wanted a halibut so out we went into the deep blue. Such dedication I have not seen in a while, we gave him every chance to go back but Tim stuck it out, his throat got dry, he started to burp…"Lets go" he said…we pulled in the lines and started the engine but it was too late…afterwards he stopped us…"I feel better now"…this went on for about 45 minutes. Despite how horrible he felt he stuck to it and he was rewarded…he was into a big hali…

I was worried that it was too big to keep as we should be releasing fish around the 200lb mark. Tim struggled during the fight to keep down his lunch but twice had to hand the rod over to boat mate Stan when he fell to his knees and hurled over the side. Note the transaderm patch in this picture. 20 minutes later the fish emerged from the depths and there was no doubt that this fish was going back to Texas…

A beautiful fish and the first fish I’ve ever harpooned over 100 lbs. The excitement kept the sea sickness at bay for a moment or two as we packed up as quickly as possible, Tim visited the side of the boat at least one more time before I hit full throttle and headed for the dock where we took some photos and let Tim settle down. It was an amazing feat of endurance and now a story to tell when he shares this fish with friends and family back home. Well done Tim, Seapak should have your fish portioned, vac packed, frozen and delivered within 4-6 weeks, you deserved this one! Here was the team of Capt’n Ken, Stan, Tim and a 144 pound Halibut.
