The Outpost Fishing Reports

The Outpost Report: July 13, 2009

Where do I even begin…well lets start with the Cheung group. I believe they had money riding on most activities last weekend the least of which was an innocent game of poker…

Then the experience of age took on the exuberance of youth to see which would catch the largest fish on average over the entire trip (Aggregate of all anglers, salmon and halibut), thus everyone participated and was either an “old guy” or a “young guy”…there was some debate over that dividing line, suffice to say Ray and Todd were granted “young guy” status. I believe the greatest financial trophies lay in who caught the biggest spring and the biggest halibut…this is where things get interesting. Leading into this morning the experience of age was dominating the youth and with only 2 hours left of fishing time the “old guys” appeared to be sitting back a bit relishing in the anticipation of victory so sweet over the younger, more hungry and clearly competitive group. BUT this morning in the final hour it was Alison who started to swing the pendulum of victory by landing this fish clearly a Tyee but how big would it be…

It pulled that needle down to 41 lbs! An awesome fish and the largest of the trip by far and the largest guest fish this summer at the Outpost, truly amazing!

She and her team of youth were thrilled, and here she is with guide Mike Panz and husband Alex..

Nobody was going to beat that salmon and she won the largest Chinook of the trip and graciously accepted the awards from father Paul, who tried to keep a happy face as he was stripped of money that would have been his (he was tied for biggest fish)…

But would it wouldn’t be enough to raise the average fish size without a little help…which came from Ray and his 12th round knockout punch to the old guys which was a roundhouse 165 lb halibut…

That did it, all within two hours this morning. Ray won biggest overall fish and received his financial reward

and with that fish the “young guys” took the “belt” for largest overall fish size and here is the team posing with their imaginary belts…

Congratulations to Todd, Alex, Alison, Alex and Phil! The old guys flexed their muscles and just like Rocky Balboa, I kind of expect to see a comeback/rematch next summer.

Until then gentlemen, better luck next time!
