The Outpost Report: August 8, 2008

“My best trip ever” is what Steve Brosseau said at the end of this incredible weekend in the Charlottes. And that was an amazing statement as Steve has been coming to the Outpost for the last eight years! The bite was on, the sun came out, the ocean was like glass and the Transwest, Gregson and Arychuk group of guests cherished the moment!

For young Tanner Arychuk he will never forget his first time salmon fishing. Tanner, coached by guide Brent (Boat 4) Maracle, caught a 39 lb Chinook off of Hippa in 62 feet of water using a 50/50 clenden stewart. Tanner also caught the largest Hali of the trip a 188 lb monster at Flamingo Rock in 220 feet of water. “My arms were falling off of me” is what he said after a 30 minute battle….outstanding performance Tanner.

The father and son team of Brian and Dan Gregson combined their talents to hook a 37 lb Chinook. Coached by guide Steve (The Log) Cote, they hooked their Tyee off of Hippa in 69 feet of water on a cut plug. First time salmon fisherman Sergio Patino was also awarded Tyee pins for his 36 lb and 30 lb silver bullets! Coached by guide Kevin (Kermode) Sturgess, Sergio landed his 36 lb Chinook off of Hippa in 92 feet of water using a 6” spoon. Sergio’s technique for catching salmon can be best described as watching a cowboy ride a bull with his hand flying wildly into the air….many thanks for your dynamism and colorful personality Sergio!!

Bill Lapp – 34 & 32 lb Chinook and Steve Brosseau – 30 lb Chinook also joined the 2008 Tyee Club. Over the weekend this group of 12 guests caught 47 Chinook ranging from 14 – 39 lbs, 38 Coho ranging from 8 – 12 lbs and 21 Halibut ranging from 16 – 188 lbs. Many thanks to Joe and Kevin for releasing a 260 lb Hali and Sergio, Brian and Dan for releasing their 250 lb Halis……the fish gods are smiling down on you!
