The Outpost Report: August 11, 2009

TUESDAY FISHING REPORT: What is that dark relief figure on the dock?

Can it be…yes! Its a shadow from direct sunlight, rejoice!! Not only did the weather start to change today but for the fishing seemed to pick up steam with the sunshine. The father and son team of Rod and Matthew received a word of encouragement from brother Andrew who visited the Outpost last year. His comments:

I just read the lodge report from today, very happy to see my dad and brother both got into some fish. To tell you the truth, it was the first thing that I did when I got home from a wedding. I have attached a picture of the 196 lbs halibut that I caught last year with my dad.  Best fishing experience ever.

Thanks for letting us know Andrew. Here was Andrew and his dad last year with the MONSTER hali…

Back to today, Andrew’s brother Matthew had trouble dragging his fish out of the boat, down he went…

Dragging the great beasts isn’t as easy as it appears. However the “mule train” built up speed and headed towards to the scale…

The result was an amazing pair of twin 118 pound halis for father and son, both Queen’s grads, I think that’s worth a high five…

But that wasn’t all they had, Rod got the first Tyee of the group at 31 lbs

Go Gaels go! Next up was Archie and guide JP who decided to do a 1950’s style “stringer” style photo, I’ve aged the picture appropriately. Christine had decided not to join the boys for their early morning sojourn as she needed to sleep in and charge up her “Girl Power”, which was needed for the afternoon as you will see, but for now Archie and his morning catch, old school style…

That “girl power” came in handy after lunch as Christine reeled in this monster 120lber…but that’s not enough to bring her back next year, she made me promise to have a “girl boat” ready for 2010, with onboard facilities, good looking guides and masseuses available. For you Christine I’ll do everything in my power as the Outpost is like Fantasy Island. Here she is…

Then Myles and his group arrived from a full day down south and a haul that was simply unbelievable…limits on everything! The group of Myles, David, Jay and Steve posed for this shot with their catch…

AWESOME!!!! There is nowhere else on earth you can do this in as much comfort and style as the Outpost, NOWHERE!!!! Next up another father and son duo; Murray and Allan who braved the journey south to fill up on salmon, here they are in the sunlight…

What a day! The total numbers: 13 Coho biggest was 12 lbs, 15 Chinook Biggest 31, 7 halibut 5 of which were over 100 lbs, 5 lings and 3 snapper…I think its going to be just as good if not better tomorrow. I’ll finish off tonight with a picture I’ve called the “Panz nightmare”, where all the fish he’s killed over the summer come back to get him. Enjoy and goodnight…
