The Outpost Fishing Reports

The Outpost Report: August 10, 2009

August 10, 2009 | 685 Views

CHANGEOVER @ THE OUPOST: Rain Rain Rain…doesn’t stop the fish from biting. Doug started the morning off with this nice Chinook before heading home. You can tell by the gear that its been wet…

he’s just happy to have a fish in hand, well done Doug and safe travels. The new group arrived right on time and headed out unphased by the weather. We watched from inside as the boats drove away to fulfill the dream filled nights of expectation leading up to this moment…

We had a number of fathers and sons fishing together today and here is Rod with his #1 reason for visiting the Outpost this summer, his first son Matthew. Last year Rod was here with son # 3 who I’m told reads the reports daily…if so son #3 can you send a photo from last year?

That’s a 23lb Chinook for Matthew. They were followed by father and son combo number 2 Murray and Allan with their 19 and 23 pound Chinooks…what a perfect way to spend a day together!

Jay and Steve we’re not to be left out with one spring each and a 77lb halibut for Steve who’s doing quite a good James Dean impression…

Myles returned to the lodge for the second time this summer and got to experience our new Halibut fishing techniques…they tried to keep one of the smaller fish as he hooked into 11 and released a bunch…the small “take home” fish ended up being 97 lbs…I think Myles likes it!

Halibut teeth…need dental work but I know some women that would kill for lips with a sheen like that…

Lastly Anna had some suggestions re: the Frog identity from this photo posted yesterday

Her comments:  I’m thinking your August 9th post may be a Pacific Tree Frog … fairly common, but a treat to have around. They are quite common up and down the coast, but were, as I understand, introduced to the Queen Charlotte’s.  Look at http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/wld/frogwatch/whoswho/factshts/pactree.htm  for a bit more information… and similar species which look like the PTF.  Or… it may be a Boreal Chorus Frog… regardless, your question was an enjoyable thought problem. Hope this finds you and the crew at the Outpost well and enjoying the last few days of summer there….

Thanks Anna, we love what we do up here and will be sad to see it all come to an end next Monday…there’s always next year to look forward to.
