The Outpost ~~ Canada Day and The 4th of July

July 6, 2013 | 1133 Views

Another week has flowen by at The OP and lots has been happening. A few Tyees, whales, eagles and two days that called for some celebration!

Canada day was celebrated at The OP with a big flag being flown…

and a few nice fish coming into the dock. Here is Ryan, Big Carl and Steve holding some nice Tyees.

Here is Geoff and Pappa D with a nice mid 20s fish.

While some anglers, Shawn and Derrick, took a quick kipp…..

Other animals took advantage of a feeding FRENZY. There were Bald Eagles everywhere, Big Fish Ben said he took a quick tally and he lost count at 38!!! This was how we knew it was the 4th of July!

If you look close enough at the Eagle behind the seagull, you can see herring in its talons.

Birds of all ages were feeding. This is a juvenile, we know this because of the lack of noble looking white head and tale. Sometime in their 5th year they start to change to he classic white head and tail, their beak, feet and eyes change to a vibrant yellow.

Some birds look like they have been through a tough battle!

One little Pigeon Guillemot let down their guard and this Baldy took advantage and attacked, I guess he was topped up on Omega 3s and wanted a little bit of red meat. This photo sequence makes me think of a fighter pilot……

IMG_5881

“Target engaged, I am going in for attack”

IMG_5882

“I have engaged the enemy, Hold for Confirmation.”

IMG_5883

“Roger that command post, I have a confirmed connection!!”

IMG_5885

“I am two minutes out from Home Base wish a hot dinner on board. Who’s coming?”…….

And what a whale show… multiple breaches, tail slaps and bubble net feeding. This photo captures the power Humpback Whales must have. I often think, what inspires them to slap their tail, wave a fin in the air, or even breach? Anybody have any suggestions? I think they are just having fun!!! I know if I could launch myself out of the water like they can, I would be doing it non stop, elbowing my Mum and Dad saying “Hey watch this one!!!”.

And last but not least KRUD. David Hawksworth could not beat the master of the KRUD table this year….

Jordo had taken a healthy lead in the KRUD standings with three wins. Ol’ Yeller (or should I say Barbie…I mean Ken)  is looking longingly into Jordos eyes and thinking “Please tell me your secret. How are you SO GOOD?”
