The Clubhouse - Tyees and New Boat

Friday night here at the Club, brisk easterly wind and sunny skies! We
are into trip four now and the fishing is still decent with two tyees
today, one yesterday.

Todays top fish broke the ice for boat 16, first tyee of the year in
this sled, expertly angled by Aaron Loraas. This is top fish of the trip
thus far. This fish was taken out at Cohoe Point in challenging seas
this pm. Boat 6 also got some attention and an ego fluff with a
beautiful 30 lb specimen, angled by Peter Rowe, this fish also same
place but early afternoon.

It was a small gong show at times, a heavy tide, serious chop, and
plenty wind.Usually an easterly means some rain, but today is warm and
sunny. Plenty teen sized springs on the tack, keeping those that were
fishing it right very busy. Some coho have showed as well to seven lbs,
so not every bite is the coveted spring bite now. That is the bonus with
early June, Chinooks on the line, the big deal around here.

I had a busy afternoon fishing with Walter Mah, harvesting a 27 lb fish
as well as a 20 lb, now filleted and on a one way trip to Saskatchewan.
We were hammering mostly mid teeners, plenty taken off the kelp, with
the aid of fresh jigged herring. Large schools, 2 to 5 tons, are showing
on the flood, lots of bait like this holds the fish in the area. These
are huge herring, averaging 20 cm.

Yesterday was an awesome afternoon, again out at Cohoe. I fished with
Lorne Wright, and we grabbed a 30lb fish as well as a mid twenties, and
were busy shaking high teeners like humpies. Wave after wave of these
springs flooded into Cohoe Point. Glass calm and decent schools of
chinook, now that is a party.

The halibut front is quiet, resident expert on everything halibut is
Matt Connelly, and he blew an afternoon working his tail off out off
Lacy, grabbing only two smaller snapper. He did guide an over legal
sized halibut, but nothing under 48.5 inches. Matt also had to deal with
the brisk easterly, having to drop the pick as he was being blown
offshore. Long faces on the halibut boats, but hey, its stacked with
chinook on the flood tide, so not all bad news.

We have the new addition to the fleet out on the water now, a 27 foot
whaler center con, no tee top this year but it is coming. These
beautiful boats are so hard to find, and we now have three of them in
the fleet.This particular boat is open concept, a serious fishing boat,
heaps of deck space, a guides dream.

A big flood tide tomorrow afternoon promises to be fishy, so stay tuned
