The Clubhouse Report: September 11

September 12, 2013

Good evening from Langara , yes we are open and not only catching Chinooks, we are catching lots of them! The weather continues incredible and with flat seas, sunny skies, and salmon standing on their tails with mouths open. I can hardly believe this is mid Sept. and we are the only lodge open with Langara Island all to ourselves. We are fishing in the Cohoe Point Andrews area, mostly moderately deep, 60 to 90 on the cable, 35 pulls off the stern. The fish come in bunches, today out the gate slow, but by 8:30 we began hammering the tar out of them. Most of these fish are mid to high teens, but we all came in with fish in the twenties today, the nicer fish 18 to 23 lbs. These are bright fish, not what you would expect. Sure the odd lunker is angled, darker than some, but the majority are chrome. Even the Chum, todays monster at 15 lbs was taken on my skiff, are silver bright, and boy do they scream off when hooked on a weightless rigger rod, punishing any knuckles that get in the way of those islander reels. The coho have thinned out but are still being hit, most seem to be resident Charlotte fish, 7 to 10 lbs. I am releasing most of the smaller darker coho in hopes they might be heading into the nearby Jalun River. What a feeling to be working Cohoe Point alone, nice long tacks in clear water, no traffic at all, amazing. Like I said, being the only lodge open, no lineups, no fuss, even the lions are giving most of us a break. If you ever get a chance to experience this time of year, fall fishing at the Clubhouse can be a real treat. I have your favourite top guides on standby, the hardcore guys that love fishing and can not put the boats to bed, including Pat Simmons, Korey Fletcher, Jordie Stromquist, Cris Done, among the high-liners. I have a full trip report of our Canucks trip which ended Sept 10, coming soon so check back. Will have some pics up as well. What an incredible trip we had, lead by the Sedins, Kesler, Luongo, Hammer,Kasian, a guides fav, all the boys showed and had a wonderful time. Than you Mike Gillis and the gang back in Van for putting this trip together, as well as Brian Grange, still buzzing around in the chopper me thinks, what a show, as stated full report coming.

Must walk the mascot now, Chelsea is here, the yellow lab, goodnight from the Clubhouse, Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Sceamer
