The Clubhouse Report: September 07

September 8, 2013

Seminars hosted by Brent Gallager are now a daily part of the guides routine here at the Clubhouse, HOW TO CATCH REALLY BIG FISH! Some of our guides paid attention and some snored through the lecture, but we all learned something and had successful back to back Boeing trips here at Langara.

The weather awesome, flat water, oodles of chinook in the teens, and the odd clunker up to 33 lbs in Kuis boat, a 31 in Jrods boat, so maybe that book paid off. It has been active for the most part out there, but the majority of fish are deep and in the teens. The east side chicken halibut are in as well as the odd coho, up to 14 lbs. I am not really seeing the larger chinooks as in past years that push through Cohoe Point, Sept 5 to 12th, some into the 40s. One year a 67 lb was grabbed by This is Ian, in early Sept. All in all we are the last lodge open here at Langara, with two trips to go. We have a Canucks trip starting Sunday, which has the trademark hill run as part of the training regiment. I am hoping to have a few guides leading the way and in the mix, lets park that truck! Amazing how quiet it is around here and out there on the chuck.Sure you here the odd gunshot, or in reality another king salmon snapping a leader on a buckled rod, Nothing like the sound of Maxima sporty 40 cracking under the pressure of a screaming Jack king getting the better of a new angler and gaining its freedom. Sometimes the fish win, and that is not such a bad thing. So tomorrow brings another lecture on the dock, chaired by Gallager, with Simmons asking way to many questions, such as " why are there no shiner perch here? " As Korey has his spin rod buckled over on a deuce of perch right off the dock. Yes there is always too many questions when it comes to How To Catch Really Big Salmon....but thankfully we have the new guy on our dock, Brent, to help guide us all into a fantastic last week here at the Clubhouse, Goodnight from Langara, Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
