The Clubhouse Report -- MORE TYEES

July 28, 2013

Hello from Langara, a foggy night in here, Saturday night, our current
trip just wrapping up. We have 15 tyee to report, so fishing continues
good and all anglers are catching.

I had a fun trip fishing trip fishing this weekend with an enthusiastic
Mike Komisarek and his dad Roman. This was they're first visit up here
to the Clubhouse and between the chinook fishing and the wildlife, me
thinks they will be back.

We fished the first two days out at Lacy, in calm waters, ripping tides,
and yes lots of fish. We found a scrappy 33 lb chinook for Mike , a fish
hooked in the pec fin, so quite a battle to land her. We weaved in and
out the small fleet of skiffs, the rod buckled, heaps of pressure, and
35 minutes later we had the tyee in the net. We grabbed this fish at 80
feet off the wire.

We completed the trip today fishing on a Whitey bite down at Gunia. We
were blowing the shift out at Lacy, when I heard some clapping and
Whiteyisms over the radio...Hey Wade, anything doing? Yup, some fish!
What the hell does that mean? I happen to know Wade, and that means get
here now!

So upon arrival I felt very late getting to the party, Wade had a 41 in
his NIL skiff, and another tyee, dammit! We saw jack herring everywhere,
a crematorium was underway. Quickly the rods were sunk, not deep, and
soon we had a 25 in the boat. Soon after it dried up, and the pink gong
show was underway, pink after pink, good times.

Some of the guides switched to gear, clendon stewarts, and the like, but
I battled the pinks, and we hooked a 30 lb fish before lunch, which
Roman landed calmly and cooly. This fish was a relaxed effort, big fight
but nobody in the way.

Looking around the dock, Jordie had a big tub, same area, lots of kings
on the dock. Big coho too, averaging 9 lbs. Conman had a boatload of
Jacks and decent twenties up to 28 from Coho point, so fish everywhere,
he claims maybe 100 ton of herring in the area.

This afternoon was the third period, we were hoping for a nice run and
we got it. Roman had two nice chinook, a 25 lb fish that put up a good
battle, and a crazy 33 lb tyee that almost gave me a coronary, but we
managed to land her. An Oak Bay skiff was determined not to pick up his
lines or move so my rather large skiff had to pull off an evasive crazy,
very slick do not try this at home move to save our fish, resulting in a
stunned crowd and a rather nice tyee in our boat, see picture below!
That wrapped up the game for us, Mike grabbing a goal and two assists,
Roman had the two goals, and Screamer three assists, goals being
tyees...yes that is our Goal!

Tyee West Coast Coast Fishing Club

Other fish of note, Bud Mercer, PCL had a 30 lb tyee, Sven Freybe hada
pair, 30 and 33,5. Cataldo Fortino had a 31, Max Zedler grabbed a 31.
Daniel Zima released a 31, well done, fishing on skiff 17. John Jenkins
grabbed a 32, Nathan Lwis grabbed a 33, Rick Distefano had a 30, David
Kaulkner a 30, and Peter Woolf a 30. Frank Medwenitsch had a 33 from the
PCL group, thinking on Jordies boat. So tyees were around in some
numbers.

Tomorrow looks good, light winds, calm seas, and lots and lots of big
bites, see you all soon, get up here, its one of those years! Goodnight
from Langara, Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
