The Clubhouse Report: June 5, 2011

An awesome day on the water today as a decent run of Chinook hit the east side of Langara today. Fish were everywhere and in good numbers ! The weather was killer, sun with a breeze from the northwest, calm seas and happy faces. Brian Grange was out fishing the am with Todd and reported 15 encounters with spring salmon in two hours of fishing, grabbing a couple fresh ones to take home. The Coho point area had fish in the am, we fished the Boulder area for the two hour fish and only hit 4 fish.

The pm was a different story. I ran Hugh Owen out to coho point with Bruce Beattie and we hammered the tar out of em, three triple headers in a row, all in the first hour. These were smaller 17 to 21 lb fish but what a bunch of fun, I played my first three fish of the season. Hugh kept me busy, I swear he wants to guide up here when retirement comes. He showed me his complete fishing repertoire, some techniques' very different, but Hugh went a perfect ten for ten on the Chinooks, he is on a roil.

Evidently there is some size around, Hans had the Barfoots out, slipping a 36 lber in, no details though, he was off to dinner when I hit the docks. Kory dragged a 30 lber in , he had a grin on his Sedin like face. Kory had Bob and Verlie Wills out at Boulder for that fish, not a bunch going on there though

We saw a great humpback whale display in the early am off Lucy Island, a whale all wrapped in kelp twisting and turning, very curious of our boat. There are lots of Humpbacks in the area now, well worth a cruise around the island for a look. The weather continues fantastic, we are in a dry pattern. The fish are now here in numbers, everyone is catching. The guides and myself hope to see you all this summer, things are happening here at the Clubhouse!
