The Clubhouse Report: June 11

A foggy misty night in here tonight, as we continue on hunting for slugs and shaking spring salmon. The fishing continues good, although the large wave of springs has moved on and we are in the rebuilding mode now. Not hammering the tar out of them but those who put in some time are doing well.

I will have the tyee anglers names next report and yes , six so far on our third trip of the year. I was happy today to find David Maxwell a 30 lber, his first tyee ever after five visits, guided by names previously such as Timmy Five Hundred and Cargo. We grabbed this fish and a second fish at 25 lbs for David, out at Cohoe Point, what the sam heck? A guy can still have good fishing at the old parking lot?
We hit a number of fish on the flood tide, and looking around, the window of fish lasted 2 pm to 430 pm. We were fishing freshies jigged by myself, these buggers were 22 cm long, wow! The packaged bait worked equally as well, but nothing like lopping a head off a fresh bloody herring and sending it down 50 feet cave man style. Easy jigging for this herring, massive balls all day reported by most of the guides on the east side of Langara.

Lots of fish mid teens, but the lucky guys were grabbing 20,s and I saw boat 6 with a 27, boat 11 with a 25, boat 17 had a low 20, pred 2 was on em right off my stern. Old school Cohoe point was a nice troll today, and me thinks tomorrows flood will be a similar story.

Our morning on the ebb was horrid. Hmm I stunk out there as did most of my guide friends. Fletcher reported a tyee at the reef, but gooned me, as upon screaming over to his quadrant he let me know it was a halibut, dammit. So I fished in the bowl for an hour, rotting, and went sheepishly back to Andrews and fought off kelp, good times. Some of the guides did the round the world tour, known as fishing the complete island and failing miserably. That ebb tide just did not work.
The flood though moved the size large herring back up the east side and that is what is working. Lots of boats, but a reason for it, fish!

In humorous news, Hans has lost his rain gear for the 10 th time it seems, if anyone has it, he is offering up a reward! I personally was berated out at Cohoe Point by a local troller, who had one of the biggest meltdowns ever on the tack, as I calmly said nothing and felt so sorry for his anger, he was so disturbed haha. Cohoe Point is always a laugh, one of the most memorable tacks you will ever fish.

So tomorrow I will try and have an update on tyees, chinooks, battles, wins and losses, and all things Langara, to then goodnight and yes morning does come early, Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide Screamer.
