The Clubhouse Report: July 4, 2011

July 4, 2011

Hot fishing continues here at Langara. Yes it is blustery and wet but we are again being hit with a wall of Chinook, yes, fish everywhere.

I am now fishing the high water in the pass, as is a number of our boats, and Chinook into the low thirties are happening, with one hitting the 40 mark yesterday, guided by Bryce. The numbers are not high but the quality is high and the fight crazy good, especially with no lead hanging on the line. Yes the downrigger in combo with mooching rods of the stern is the best of both worlds. Some days it is the stern rods, others it is the thumping head shake on the rigger rod, with a pop, the release clip releases the mainline, and it is up to you from that point on. Only you, the fish, a couple hooks and a swivel...NO WEIGHT! Yes nice to have the option, cover the bases, and right now a great way to angle for these amazing fish.

I had Steve Rogers in Bruin Bay yesterday, and we had five fish on the tide, 20 to 29 lbs, all released. Crazy clear water, combat style fishing, at times chaos, but in 45 feet of water, screaming surface runs, aerials and dives, so much fun in there! Korey had his rigger working off the reef, grabbing fish to 28 lbs as well. Bryce released three tyees at the reef YESTERDAY! Game on in the pass for big fish!

Today coho point was going off, we hit the water at lunch and hammered the tar out of them, so many fish 15 to 25 lbs... in fact hundreds of fish. Coho to 10 lbs as well, yes insane fishing for three hours. We grabbed several nice springs there as well, then moved to Bruin for a handful of Chinook, great fishing in there too.

So off to bed, standby for a full report coming soon.
