The Clubhouse Report: July 25, 2011

July 26, 2011

The mist and fog are ever present tonight at the Clubhouse, the fire is raging, and everyone seems excited with today's fishing. A great night here, special guest chef Dino Renaerts at the helm, wine tasting events, hosted by Mark Davidson. Born in London, raised in Sydney, now residing in San Francisco, not only is Mark into the wine program, wow, he has a passion for fishing too. Every chance he gets we see him on scene, batting the guides for turf....and he is on em always!

This current trip started on Sunday, and one boat was putting on a show in for the two hours they fished. Kory had Jack Charles JR out with Don Ritchie, and knocked it out the park, landing three tyee in Bolder Bay, a 33, 37 and a 45. Jack released the monster 45 taken at 31 feet on the cable. Don grabbed the 37 and set her free, gee...where was I To top it off , Dorothy Ritchie angled a 34 this am at the REEF...my goodness this boat is awake again. Jack was pretty pleased with himself, Kory had a saunter to his step and all smiles too, a real ego fluff ha ha.

We fished an hour at Lacy, hmm was dead! not today though, the bait and Chinook were back. I heard late tonight the Rupert's teamed up with Dunne for a 40 lber, heard them calling for cameras late afternoon. Fishing was good, most boats had a tote of fish, averaging 18 lbs, the Chinook over 20 the nice ones. Again the guides used a mixture of tackle, spoons and plugs in the mix. I trolled the plugs, plenty of action and easy to shake coho. This is quick trolling with cables set at 60 to 90 feet, racing around chasing feed. This method slows the coho down too, the ones you grab tend to be larger, we had a 13 today in the boat. The coho are now averaging 9.5 lbs.

The sea lions backed off today, sitting all confused out at Coho Point, yes the lions blew the shift. Always fun to outfox a rock dog. The east side of Langara is dead to me, no fish showing of size or numbers, what is going on? Probably a lack of bait here.....the pass is full of needlefish!

Well all good guides need some sleep, off to bed and rest, halibut tomorrow I am told, I might actually have nightmares haha...We will head west and yes, full report tomorrow!

Goodnight from the Clubhouse,

Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
