The Clubhouse Report: July 10

July 11, 2013

A nice day of fishing in here at Langara, tyees aboard and released, it is happening now! The second round of Hippas is passing through, and we have plenty of big fish to tell you about.

I fished the trip with Dan Hamuis and his father, and Joe Nessman and son Paul. Jordie grabbed a 32 for Dan yesterday which was released and Dans first tyee. I had a weaker game yesterday, but showed up today, grabbing a 34 with Dan out west, again released, and a sealion rushed 30 retained for angler Joe Nessman. The 34 was a first pass 20 feet job off the kelp in the blow hole, epic jumps and rolls, a great fight for Dan, now two tyees under his belt. Joe had his drag snugged up, and rod buckled, winching in his 30 before it was slammed by the hungry lion cruising close by.

So final score, Marty Hamhuis, 40 lbs, 32lb release, Dan Hamhuis, 32lb, 34lb both released. Joe Nessman 30 lb retained, 5 tyee for the group,+ - 5!

We had fifteen tyee on the trip, boat 6 had great fishing landing three tyee, with angler Jim Adamson landing a 33, and Ivor Yhap grabbing a pair at 32 and 40 lbs now that is some good fishing guys, well done korey!

Another great effort was Predator 2 and the 49 released as well as a 35 that swam free, for angler Steve Larsen, the 49 taken out at Cohoe Point Bud informed me, before hitting his sack for a early sleep...in bed at 7pm these days.

Robert Haas released a 35 on Miracle Childs boat, again out at Cohoe , Craig Fox released a 30 aboard Pred 1, Robert Allison retained a 32.5 on boat 16, Cynthia Davis had a 30 on boat 18, Ryan the guide, Shaun whispered to me!

So you can see the fish are showing again, a huge trip in here, and coho so thick, you can walk on they're backs at times! Nice ones too, 9 to 10 lbs common. Some guides towing gear, just to avoid the hoes, others hiding in the pass avoiding these hungry schools!

I am posting several pics of a monster 67.5 lb fish I helped release for a north island guide yesterday, a crazy fish hooked out west right in the kelp. I had nothing to do with the catch, but I saw the hit and barrel roll out the water, three feet from shore. I immediately reeled up and prepared my hippaquarium for a revival, this fish looked like a monster, not a chance anyone would want this fish dead. Jacob is the lucky guide, do not know much about him, and sure a story will be written on the NIL blog, but thought I would share a few pics, posted below. What a great feeling to be able to aid in the release, no easy job with a monster fish like this, all a guide could do to cradle her over the side. Thank you NIL for putting her back, and to Todd M. the manager for passing along his release ethics to the new generation of guides now working out of the camp. So enjoy the pics and we will see you all soon, its Hippa Season NOW, open for business, goodnight from the Club, Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
