The Clubhouse Report: August 21, 2011

August 22, 2011

A thundershower is pounding us tonight, brisk southerly winds as we all get comfy in the lodge tonight. We are still in a wet period here at Langara, although the winds are dropping off hourly now. The East and South side are fishable, the West side closed as monstrous swells slowly abate.

That is the beauty of Langara, we are always fishable here. Being an island we can fish around the wind, unlike the exposed west side of the Charlottes. There is always a place to fish with chinook and coho in the mix. Travel times to hotspots varies from three minutes to seventeen minutes, you are hard pressed to find that outside of the Langara area.

Today was slower on the chinook, although the news of the day was a seventy plus pounder released in the Naden Area. Here at Langara a fifty-five pound fish was released by a North Island guide in the Gunia area, NIL guide Pat finding this monster. These fish were the exception though, most springs were in the teens. Paul Douglas and son found a 29 for top fish at the club, fishing with Korey, but after that we were in the low twenties and mid teens. It might just be one of those days, this rain should stir it up and move a few through.

We are concentrating on the east side as Lacy is blown out with big swells, that could possibly change with the better forecast. Nice to see if those monster coho are still out there, it has been days since we had a look. Find the bait and look out, you are set to start heavy hauling!

I hope to find a few good fish tomorrow or at least a good story to relay, so off to bed I go. Get some rest and get ready to man the rail and yard a few over the side!

Goodnight from the Clubhouse,

Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
