Hello everyone, Sunday is here, change out day and a new batch of guests ready to try theyre luck in the waters surrounding Langara Island. Weather is again sunny, warm and flat seas...hmmm this is Langara, not Panama!
Our last group left with eight tyees, and plenty of good fish, top fish a 38.3 for Mark Corra! Runner up was Tony Lesiak, a 35.5. Guide favourite Craig Nelsen, who by the way refuses to ever fish with me anymore released his tyee of some 34 lbs, way to go for the kid from Colorado! Craig has fished with us for years, spent way to many years in mining camps up and down the coast, and seems to love every minute he has to spend up here catching and releasing these beautiful fish!
I see Bruce Humphrey had a 34 as well, Timo Jauristo grabbed a 33, Ryan Mattiesen angled a 31, and Bruce Braganolo found a 30.5 to name some of the notable catches.
What the heck? Craig Nelsen released a 140 lb halibut? First off, Craig went halibut fishing? Okay, that is why he does not fish with me anymore!
As stated, fishing has been great, August has been a nice month. We have the PCL boys in here now and I fished with Chris Gower and Brian Budden...Brian a new salmon fisher. We worked several ours hard out west, 5 to be exact, but we did manage to land a 27.5, a 25, and a couple high teens on the ebb. Heaps of feed pouring by the kelp beds, this is exciting fishing. Most of the boys had fish, slower today though than yesterday.
The weather outlook is great for the week. Finally summer for the month of August. Calm seas in most locations. Chinook deep out at Cohoe Point, 120 on the cable. Shallow fish available at Boulder. Pinks at times moderate to heavy, and dog fish at Boulder, now that's a party, good times.
Out west you might find a few suprises, and yes did stumble into one...Whitey, yes Wade in a NIL humpy sled playing a tyee snagged in the pec fin, a great fight and yes Whitey released her. Not before going yeeehaa and clapping, yes clapping, a Whitey signature move. Nice to have a pro back fishing at Langara, you beat the tar out of your fair share of tyees in the 90,s!
Okay, bed time, off to my bunk, sleep off the pot roast and get ready for tomorrow, will fill you in as events unfold, goodnight from Langara, Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Clubhouse
