The Clubhouse Report: August 04

August 6, 2013

A nice evening in here at Langara, calm winds, flat seas and oodles of fish around. Stumbled into Ian Barbour on the dock tonight and he had a monster 16 lb. Coho to tell me about, grabbed by Jack Gucker down at Boulder Bay, where else? Lots of springs around, but what happened? They are mostly in the teens, lots of them, but small.

The westbank had the same fish, Lacy, yup teeners, Gunia and Boulder? 12 to 19 lbers on average. Cohoe Point? Stacked with springs in the teens, coho to 12 lbs, and a million bites!

Our last trip started last Thursday, ending today, Sunday. On the changeover fish I was out with Rick Wilson, and we chose Cohoe Point to drag our baits. With five minutes to go, 8.25 am we hooked Ricks best fish of the trip a 33 lb tyee, 100 feet on the wire, dragging deep. A nice way to send Rick home, flat seas, beautiful morning indeed. Have a look at the pic below of the fish, decent.

Tonight I do not have all the names of the big fish guests, from our last trip. I do know the PCL group fishing with Jordie had a 36 lber from the Westbank. I saw Cris Haslam fishing with Rick Grafton aboard boat 5, grabbed a 30 lb fish at Gunia Pat carefully releasing the tyee! Matt fished the Pictsweet group and found a 32 lb tyee they released, well done. Hans and Brent found a fish each in the 30,s for the Steel Fabricators group, not bad. Bud grabbed a 35 offshore Westside, dragging deep, for the PCL boys. In fact PCL had 6 tyees me thinks.

I am including a pic of the Zivots, Mark and Harrisson, and a release bucket full of low twenties grabbed at Gunia. We never clubbed a salmon the entire trip, and still had a million laughs and plenty fun for sure.

We had plenty of competition at Gunia, ghosts from the past plugged the tack, what the sam heck was going on? Darcy Diggler was pounding Douglas on the flood, Steve Tennant right in there as well, and Joel McDonald bullying his way in the Hippa hole as well. Add a gaunt Todd Macintyre to the mix and it was a small war at Gunia, not to mention the 30 other boats jostling for position. Yesterday afternoon the fish were in there, Diggler snaking two 34 lbers for tote of the day, Todd had a cocky look on his face with a 22 lb fish, and the rest of us were busy for two hours shaking low twenties. Tennant snuck up the back side of Andrews and grabbed more good fish there as well, the bite was on everywhere. Sure great to have the old crew back, the radio was very entertaining, what is that grunting all about?

Today saw the best fishing back over at Coho Point, heaps of springs in the teens at all depths, and a zillion coho. Tomorrow looks fishy so hopefully I will have tyees to tell you about, until then goodnight from the Clubhouse, Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Clubhouse.
