The Clubhouse Report: Aug 1, 2012

August 2, 2012

Hello again, from the Clubhouse at Langara, where some larger fish have made an appearance and some excitement has built in the last 48 hours. We are open for tyee business, and the shopping has been decent, as this is our first trip with two fish over 50 lbs, and ten tyee overall. Fishing has been spotty, but the size has picked up again, and every hook-up might be the fish you are looking for, so hey, good times!

Top fish of the trip was taken by Dylan Davies, a 52 lb fish, hooked in Bruin at 4 pm on boat 23, that being Bryce as the guide. They dragged in there for two hours, one hit, one fish as the story go's, and they made good on the opportunity.

A nice runner up was a 50.5 lb effort for Campbell Roxburgh, fishing out at Cohoe point, on boat 5 with Universe, or Pat....hooked 10.30 am in Dibrell Bay, off the rigger at 70 feet. This angler is visiting from Sydney Australia, first salmon trip, what a start, now you have to come back!

Both these monsters were released, in fact most of the tyee on this trip were returned, well done guests and guides. I heard Jesse Bernal scored a 44 today and a 33 yesterday, both released and a well done. Eric Nelson snuck a 37 lb fish in, and Charles Rivest grabbed a 36, I believe out at Cohoe Point. Mark Hill took a 31, as did John Hayashida, same for Hamish Roxburgh a 31 lb chinook. Oh, I missed Garry Bemister and his 31 lb fish.

So some tyees, a few mid to high twenties, and lots of teeners at times, especially deep off Cohoe. Jordie spent the trip deep dragging on the east side and did well, sitting on huge balls...of herring, hawg herring. I spent some time jigging this herring and wow, average size was 20 cm....and so fat hard to roll. These are monsters, as big as brook trout, and easy to catch, a nice bait to put down for sure.

In the area we had a 62 taken by a local lodges unguided boat, off Andrews in the am, wow, there's one. A 54 was wacked by another unguided boat off Pop Off point, now called Friendly by the new guys on the block.

The coho have been nice as well, now up to ten lbs, looking better every day. But this is the story now, Hippas! Not the time to be looking for chickens, this might be the Golden Week for the season, do not miss out. All big fish holding spots need your attention, Gunia, Boulder, Bruin, the REEF! A chicken might cost you a 50! Always consider this in Golden Week, catch your chickens after your Hippa!

Weather is perfect, sun is out, no wind,so get up here and get the job done. Whales, eagles, lions and especially chinook are here, so for those coming in, be ready, game on here in Parry Pass, goodnight from the Clubhouse,

Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer

Cam Roxburgh (left) with guide Pat Simmons and Cam’s 50.5lb Chinook which he successfully released. Nice work!
