Outpost Update ~ June 1 "There's a beaver on the Helipad"

June 1, 2012

Well folks we're two weeks away from opening but the guests have already started showing up in anticipation of the 2012 Outpost season...

Sorry Mr. Beaver we're not open yet, you'll have to find somewhere else to hang your hat tonight.

We're in full start up mode at the Outpost and so far so good...

Mike Cullen got our water systems up and running and we're enjoying pure, soft, clean fresh water made from the chilly North Pacific of Haida Gwaii (doesn't that sound good?).

Ray and Bill tweak the finishing electrical touches on the NEW compressor unit for the walk in blast freezer...

Its working like a charm and currently holding at -30 degrees celsius. This improvement to our facility is going to make a tremendous difference to the quality of your fish leaving the Outpost this summer. The Chinook and Halibut caught here are very special and should be treated as such, we believe that proper handling is the name of the game and I think you'll enjoy the results.

Yesterday it was time to say goodbye to Father Christmas (Mike), Mr. Freeze (Ray) and Sparky (Bill)...

As in each of my previous years at the OP I say to myself..."There goes everyone, who knows anything about everything"...but with our carpenters (and general handy guys: Ronne and Bryan) and the growing knowledge base between myself and dockhand Dewy (Andrew), I think we'll be good to go.

Its been a long week of set up and unloading, the crew is a little worn down, sore and tired but Chef Jordan cooked up some of the local bounty for us last night...

Red gold...my favorite!

Then a little salt encrusted bass...

which didn't last long...

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the 2012 summer season at the OP!

A special thanks to Caretakers Heather and Mike for keeping the place in great shape and giving us weekly updates year round. I'll not be posting daily till June 15th when our firsts guests arrive but stay tuned because just like the bass...this season will be gone in a flash and I don't want you to miss a bite...I mean a beat.

Its good to be back

Ken Beatty
