Outpost Update ~ July 9-13 "Just Great!"

July 14, 2012

It was a lucky week for Mike Stuart and his crew at the Outpost. To Quote, "the best weather and fishing I've ever had (at the OP)"

Lets start from touchdown...

Bob, Ol Yeller and Bill come down the ramp on a foggy monday.

The first couple of days...

...were tough. It was ugly out there: windy, rough and wet. Making it difficult to find fish and even when you did... getting them in was a challenge. Above Scott mans the helm as his guide tries to get a second rod in the water.

Most of the group put in a full effort but fishing didn't result in much back at the dock.

Ol Yeller gets some air as he pounds out to the fishing grounds...

By the end of day 2 everything started turning around.

Bill caught the first Tyee of the trip...

A nice 31 pounder...the sun came out and the seas settled.

It was a great evening and by Wednesday you couldn't have better conditions...

Flat calm, sunny and as many Chinook as you wanted, Scott into another nice one at Hippa, which was the hotspot all week.

And another...

Scott, Kennyb and Bob enjoying as many fish as you could catch.

After filling Chinook tags most boats found time for Hali fishing...

Guide Sam readys the rods while his guests celebrate he sunshine.

Some found time for a nap while waiting for their chance...

Ed gets a little shut eye while holding the rod while his fishing partner preferred the horizontal method.

Fish on for Greg...

But you never know whats going to come up...

...the group caught skates, giant Lings...

Marky-Mark, poses with this one before sending her back down.

And a Tope shark...

Greg and Mark hold his one, a little blood from where they removed the hooks but he/she swam away like a shot when released.

There were halis...

Scott and Bob show off a mid 50's and mid 30's

We had a couple of 100+ releases...

This 60 inch fish roughly 110 pounds released by Clay.

And about a half dozen tyee's...

Kennyb and Bob hold this 30 pounder...Bob's first ever.

Morris and Mike hold up a pair of 30+ fish...

But the biggest was Greg's 34 posing here with guide Chris and Mark...the paparazzi immortalizing the moment...

Ed thought he might have had a winner on the line...

It was running hard but...it popped off...

To which he responded ..."%#$@"...as is common in such circumstances.

Back at the dock...

Charlie, Guide Peter and Clay pose with their catch from a fun day exploring around Tien.

The cleaning tables were busy...

The Krud Jacket found its way to a new "most wins" leader...

Jordan guestures towards the almightly 8 ball after his third win of the season.

Rick buys some 50/50 tickets at the "send off" prime rib dinner, proceeds going 50/50 to the winner picked in September and 50/50 to the Queen Charlotte Islands Salmon Unlimited Society...its one of the ways we try to give back more than we take from our oceans...

We hope you'll participate.

Goodbye for another season to...

Morris, Greg, Scott, Ed, Bob, Clay, Gordon, Bill, Charlie, Mike, Mark, Rick, Rene and Scott.

It was a great week with fantastic fishing and a lot of fun.

Thanks for coming.

Ken Beatty
