Outpost Update ~ July 20th "Waken the giant"

July 21, 2011

Where do I begin? I tell guests that my reports are photo driven. With each group and each assortment of characters different stories emerge...I collect guest cameras at the end of the day and just stare at the computer, flick through the photos and the story tells itself...

Tomorrow I shall "waken the giant" is what Ray told me...

Over the last 3 years Ray has been known as many things at the OP: "Ling-King" the "last Minute man", the "Sharp Shooter" the "Oldest Cousin" and was one of the first guests to ever win KRUD. His performance of late has fallen a little short but he assures me tomorrow the goliath shall rise. I'm not sure if he means...

..the "Dean of mean" exhausted from his exertions yesterday has claimed the main couch and struck out today after blowing all his Austin Powers Mojo. He wasn't alone as Steve was deep in thought in a neighbouring chair...

Les was contemplating something...

and Neil was just about to have an idea...

While newly named "Sloppy Joe" went around with "wet willies" for all of them...

You're going to get it tomorrow sloppy Joe when they read this!

But seriously folks we like to have fun here at the OP. Here's a rundown of the day...

It was blowing 25-30 knots by the afternoon so fishing wasn't easy. Here's a shot from the bay as Adam, Neil and Les roll around and came back with twin 26 lb chinooks, well done guys...

The "Jappy horror picture" show came back with this beast...

...Jappy was quoted "he wasn't expecting that today"...the ling was mangled by a sea-lion while being reeled in and ended up in pretty rough shape.

Marky-mark was apparently playing a little rugger with Paul's catch of the day...

While Ray, inspired by Alirio's rigging of those Panamanian yellow fin (one of my blog posts from the spring of this year)...

...caught a rock fish and tried to do the same to catch a ling...

It didn't work as well as it did in Panama.

The fishing highlight of the day was the magic couple of Alison and Alex who boated twin Tyees...

For Alex it was his first time breaching the 30 mark...

Thats right 32 lbs and the biggest of the day!

While back at the lodge the toughest decision he had to make was what to have for dinner...

Rebecca was doing staff hair cuts...

Hannah gets some bangs while this deer wanted a little off the ears...

It was a stunning sunset tonight...

...and I'm starting to worry about Chef Jordan...

After 2 months in the bush I wonder if there's not a giant in there waiting to emerge.

Those the perils of living on the edge of the world.

Good night from the OP

Ken Beatty
