Outpost Update ~ Aug 2nd…back in the saddle

August 3, 2011 | 575 Views

After a week away its back (yesterday) to the OP for KB and into the boat as we’ve got Mark and his merry men here for the week and all seven boats on the water. Lets take it from the top with a “Mark self portait” on our charter from Vancouver to Masset…

If you look closely through the crowd you can see a sleepy Clubhouse guide Jordie grabbing a few Z’s on his way back from a wedding on Vancouver Island.

The Helicopters got us in without issue…

…and it was showtime!

A special thanks to Justine and the OP crew for doing such a great job during my holiday, everything looks great and its nice to be back in our little corner of paradise…and paradise it is…

This photo was taken last night and it foretold what a perfect day it was going to be today.

That is if you can figure out how to wear your lifejacket…

Charlie helps Jan figure out how to get the new “bros” on. I’ve noticed this is a common problem day one…not to worry Hannah will be in the dry room to help if you can’t figure it out.

It was FLAT calm this morning so most of the boats headed south and it turned out to be the best morning of the year…

…as soon as lines were in the water it was double header action. As the morning cloud dissipated it was sunny, flat calm and the fishing was out of control. We must have had 10+ duoble headers, a tripple header and more than 50+ chinook hooked before 11 am. I think it was the same for everyone else, bent rods, smiles and sun for all…

Timo fights one of many with some of the other boats in the background. It got so hot that everyone shed their gear and put on their shades…

Way to go Timo! A lot of fish were in the 18-22 size range but some bigger ones maxed out at 33 lbs with a total of 3 tyees.

Panz guided in shorts and a sleveless top…

…trying to even out that farmers tan. While JP went shoeless in the boat. It was a fantastic morning. We even had a few blue shark encounters. In this photo a blue actually mouthed the Chinook we had on the line…the Chinook fought its way out of the bite…

The shark is on the left, the salmon on the right, you can just make out the plug in the Chinook’s mouth (btm right of the screen)…

Later in the afternoon a couple of sharks were hooked on mooching rods…

The blues are a very elegant animal and quite pretty.

After lunch the focus was halibut…

Charlie demonstrates how its done. The hali fishing has slowed but there were three 200+ pound releases this afternoon…

Charlie’s was the first at 244 pounds.

Then Jan with a 255 lber…

and Timo finished it off with a 299 lb fish…all went back and are still out there somewhere.

What an outstanding day, we’re well over half way through the season and the guides are pumped that the fishing has been so good…

Other news from the OP…

Its Adam Canning’s birthday today and the Guide shack was decorated to celebrate the occasion, for example…

Happy Birthday Adam don’t let the girls keep you up too late.

Lastly…

tonight was meet and greet and KRUD.

The result…

KB is back in the saddle.

Good night,

Ken Beatty

Wish we could be there too. MM what’s with the spookie beard? Uncle J says you look like Sea Sick Steve – US blues singer! I think he is just a touch jealous. Send me an e-mnail sometime. LoL The Owen Clan, UK
