Outpost Update Aug 6-10th ~ "Dieciocho"

August 11, 2012

Another magnificent week here at the OP with a record setting day on Thursday; between 6 boats there were 10 Tyee's caught and released with 2 over 40 lbs and a bunch of others in the high 30's. That rounds up the Tyee count (for 14 guests) to "Dieciocho" (18) last week with the biggest being 44lbs. We've already surpassed the amount of Tyees & 40 + pounders caught last year and still have 10 days left in the season!

On a sadder note the much loved OP lodge mascot Brock (who also probably weighed at least "Dieciocho" pounds), has gone missing...we are assuming that after 10-15 years at the OP she went into the woods to find her final resting spot.

Sleep well Brocky...

Out on the water the guests were "amped" up and feeling strong...

They needed to be as there was lots of "on the water" action...

NIL guide Kauri puts one in the net for Sammy. A special thanks to Sam for providing photos for today's blog.

Kauri was down from Lanaga ("Land of the Lakes" as we call it) for a cameo guiding gig. We had to bring him up to speed...big water, big fish, lots of action, full days out, using the GPS and putting in a honest days work. He managed to adjust to OP speed and it was a fun visit from our northern wcfc cousin.

Other on the water highlights, starting with some monsters included a 40+ for Curtis...

A 43 for Tony...

...what a fish! An all time record for Tony...beating his last biggest by a pound.

A 37 for Robert...

Pierre, Ol Yeller and Greg with some hogs...

Ken got the perfect "take home" hali he was looking for...

Tony, guide Gordie and Paul with a great day out...

...on their best day the above 3 caught a 35, 37, 40 and 43...just incredible.

This long jaw bit off more than he could chew getting a plug wedged in his open maw...

...that looks uncomfortable!

Back at the lodge it was smiles in the asiles...

Curtis, Jacquelyn, Dennis and Kathryn point out Richard's "pinning accomplishments"

The cocktails are always cold when you come in from a long day...as long as the deer don't beat you to them...

We also had a record number of birthdays this trip...

Happy birthday to Sam, Sarah, Kevin and Kathryn!

The Birthday Tan's decided to take break from fishing to explore glass ball beach with Marky-mark...

Sam, Sarah, Kevin and Marky-mark pose for a group shot.

For the last night family style feast Jordan is flanked by Jacquelyn and Curtis...

There was another epic battle on the Krud table...

With Papa Delta (Guide Peter) claiming his second title of the season and putting an end to Yeller's winning streak...

Fast times are fast coming to an end here at the OP as our season wraps up in just 10 days :(
