Outpost Update: Wow if you didn't see the photos on Tobey's Panama blog today you should check them out! The wind is blowing here and gusting up to something ugly...

...it hasn't effected my little friends...and I got some much better identification shots today. Lets start with what is clearly a female Rufous Hummingbird...

...I know that because a faithful follower sent me a book on "Birds of Coastal British Columbia"...thanks Dave. How about this little turkey...

I suspect that from the written and visual characteristics its a Dark-Eyed Junco... "a feisty little ground feeder". Anyone disagree?

While the Rufous sips away at the feeder I'll show you what our guests will be sipping this summer...

This is a Cali Cab, with a full body and the only wine the winery produces so its focus is very concentrated. The Rufous which has the largest brain to body weight ratio (in the bird kingdom) at 4.2 % will not over-feed on nectar (in the feeder) and will leave when it needs to. I'm not sure I can say the same for us but thats understandable as humans have a brain to body ratio of 2.5%...were only half as smart by weight.

Next up is my favorite label...

Its a Tempranillo, a medium bodied red from Spain, great grapes, bright raspberry fruit and easy drinking...I think you'll enjoy it.

This crazy bottle is an Austrian white thats very food friendly with a little zest as the label suggests.

This iron horse will stand up against the toughest critic, its balanced its got some oak is refreshing and another easy drinker on the porch with some sun (if we every get any).

We've got a line up of tasty wines this summer, Justine who is taking over from Kaili is a passionate wine connoisseur and is thrilled to share some of these with you. Its going to be hard not to keep going back to that feeder.

For the special occasions we'll also be selling some fantastic tasting grower champagnes...

Here are the three we'll be carrying, Justine will be able to tell you all about them when you come up to the lodge and perhaps want to celebrate with a little something special.

With a few of the old staff leaving on the 8th we'll probably hit the water in the afternoon to give the fishing a go...and create a little "Terrific Tuesday" action to make our Panama friends jealous.
