Outpost: June 22 – “best day in 5 years”

June 23, 2011

Outpost Update, "The best day of fishing I've had in 5 years of coming to the WCFC" says Al Perrott.

It was hot out there today...here is why it was so superb:

  • Reason #1 Calm waters

Jim plays one of many salmon today with a couple of other wcfc boats in the back ground.

  • Reason #2 LOTS of Chinook

Sandy and Deb pose here with Pierre, they and other boats were into 20+ fish today, lots of action with most fish around the low 20 lb mark although there were also 2 tyees, Sandy caught and released one of them taped out at 32 lbs. The fishing is simply fantastic right now!

  • Reason #3 Bent rods

Wether you're going for salmon, halibut or both there's plenty of action. Don reels in another slab as guide Adam looks on, Hali fishing has been outstanding with lots of great eaters at the dock. Here are the Podraskks with their morning catch of fish...

perfect take home size! We are asking guests to release big fish over 100 lbs and already we've had 3 pins awarded to guests who have done just that. They weren't the only ones on the bottom program at some point during the day...

Jp, Marcel and Don also caught some perfect "take homers".

  • Reason #4 there was sun

Which is fun when you're catching pretty much everything you want, here are Jim and Al with a full days allotment of fish. Al caught the biggest spring of the day at 34 lbs...it was guide Mike Panz's first tyee of the summer so he wanted a picture...

nice fish Mike (& AL).

  • Reason #5 Jordan made his unbelievable fish and chips for lunch

...I'm telling guests..."if its not the best you've ever tasted I'll refund your trip"...nobody and has for a refund yet.

  • Reason #6 there was live music after lunch
  • Reason #7 you never know what you're going to catch...

...what would you do if you caught at 80 lb salmon shark?

Mike Panz and angler Al decided they'd try and hold it up for a posed shot...luckily the shark broke off as Mike was tailing it.

  • Reason # 8 Good Friends

Lucy ("my" Rufous hummingbird) was around today giving me all sorts of photo ops...

lets see that ruby neck of yours...

Ah there it is...what a place to share with friends.

  • Reason # 9 NO COMMERCIAL TROLLERS...

....as of midnight last night the Department of Fisheries and Oceans closed the commercial fleet and just like the old days we have 10+ miles of ocean all to ourselves and the fish are around! We had boats stop counting chinooks after 20 to the boat and today so far its been the same thing, the guides are loving it, its the easiest job in the world right now.

  • Reason # 10 THIS IS FUN!

Just ask Terry or anyone on this trip.

  • Reason # 11 (just because this list goes to 11) do you really need another reason to be here?

If so the food and staff are fantastic, whats for dinner Rebecca?

Grilled Bavette steaks with Suncokes and Salsify...

WHAT A DAY!

Its not too late, we have some spots still available in July and its turing out to be a hell of a season.

Come see us won't you?
