After a busy pre-season that saw us do many upgrades on the property, the lodge and the boats. We were off to the races with our first trip of the season, Calumet refining, headed by Brad Newcomb.
The highlight of day 1 was a rather large 100 lb Halibut released by a very excited (and tired) Michelle Peterson. Guide Sam Harrison managed to measure the trophy size Halibut before letting it go. The biggest Chinook to hit the dock on day 1 was a 27 lbs caught by Ken Simpson III with the help of “Big Carl” at the helm. Little did Ken know, his fish would end up on top after the whole trip, although followed closely by “Chuck” Tallant’s 26lbs and Brian Fentie’s 26.5.
The weather held for the whole trip and a lot of fish around the mid to high teen range were caught and released by satisfied anglers.
Here is a photo montage of the preseason and first trip.
Rogan and crew from North Arm delivered the goods!
The new hot tub was a big challenge to tackle but thanks to the GE engineering and moving department, we got her done!
My friend JP who has been a tremendous help during preseason even managed to catch his first tyee ever! What a beast!
Our last sunset before the season, what a beauty!

All and all our first trip was a real success, all the staff are looking forward to seeing Brad and his group again next year.

The Outpost has never looked so good.
Beautiful Port Louis!
Although trip one was a real success, trip 2 upped the ante big time! Three rocks was on fire for most of the week and guys were catching up to 40 Chinooks a day!! Our second trip also brought back our very own Ken Beatty, just in time to get his Krud jacket back! The final showdown between him and Hannah was thrilling and old “Kenny B” prevailed. Ken and his dad David also did great on the fishing front with a few fish in the mid 20’s and some really nice Halibut, one of which was over 200lbs!!
David Nielsen also found a behemoth of a Halibut topping the chart at 265!! WOW Easily the biggest one of the season. Here are a few pictures from his guide Peter.
The biggest Salmon and our first tyee of the season belongs to Greg Ames with head guide Ben Russell, hitting the scale at 36lbs. Great fish guys!

Thanks to head guide Ben for making this happen!
As i am putting the final touches on this opening blog, I can say the afternoon bite has been great. There are tons of springs around and the average size is getting bigger every day. Out of 13 Chinooks hitting the dock today, 10 of them were over 20! With 1 just shy of the mark or as we would call it at NIL, a “Jim Currie” Tyee…29lbs Haha. There are also plenty of nice “turkey” size Halibut around and 30-60 pounders are steadily landing on the dock.
Hope you guys enjoyed this 1st entry and hope to see you all very soon to come and share the beauty and bounty that The Outpost has to offer. On this, I wish you a great night from Port Louis. Over and out!
