OP Report: We’ve Begun, But Where to Begin – June 19, 2019

July 3, 2019

We’ve begun, but where do I begin.Since we left you after our first report things have been…shall we say…interesting? As we are the only operation left on the west side of Graham, we find ourselves with infinite possibility. The fishing on the west side this season has been unreal. We have had a multitude of days with 40+ fish with double, after double, after double.Trip 2 of the season brought the boys from Oregon Chain back to OP from all corners of the globe.

Oregon group back at The Outpost.Group Leader Stephane Faucher, brought back his network of dealer from all around the world.

Stephane enjoying the beautiful day and his catch. Here we have Nico out of Brazil showing off his nice low 20’s keeper

Nico visiting from Brazil, enjoying the weather and his take-home catch. Nico, Fabricio & guide Clay had a spectacular day on the water

A spectacular day on the water for Nico, Fabricio & guide Clay.On the last night the guys celebrated each of their reps and recognized them for the work they do.

Celebrating hard work on their corporate retreat. Up next we welcome back BOEING. This is always a fun trip, as they have been coming for so long it’s such familiarity. The group was blessed with great weather and great fishing. The first day had everyone on the board with great numbers.

The Boeing group arrives once again! Being the odd man out Kevin Foreman needed some company. I conceded to gear up and go out with him and guide Scotty B. We decided to go check out 3 rocks, as it had not been fished that much so far. After about an hour and a couple coho’s we hooked into something nice at the North end. The fish had spirit, and after getting it in the net, we determined it was worth a measure. Turned out to be a good decision as it taped out to a robust 31lb. Looked more like 33lb to me, but we go by the tape.

Kevin Foreman and a 31 lb tyee! Guide Scott with a perfect release.

Releasing Kevin's 31.Mike Collett back at the dock with the days catch

Mike Collett and a great catch! We are always happy to see these two beauties. Rich Steer and Jon Stephens with a full tub of Lings

Rich Steer with a couple lingcods!

More lingcods! On day 3, with the gauntlet thrown down word came in of another large release. It seems Kevin Foreman had managed to get a 36lb with guide Hanes. Not sure why it’s upside down, but it was a great fish with a healthy release.

Kevin's upside down 36 lb tyee.

A quick photo before releasing this beauty. It was epic 3 days, and we were sad as always to say goodbye to the guys from BOEING.

A quick photo before heading home. Next up we had the Martinez group. New to the OP, they came from the US, Mexico and Spain. They were looking for the trip of a lifetime and it didn’t disappoint.

The Martinez group from the U.S., Mexico and Spain.Eduardo and Luis along with Sister Katya and mother Erika had been talking about a trip to Haida Gwaii for years. We were glad they finally were able to make it happen, because they were a joy to have in the lodge. Here we have Katya, Erika and Maria showing off their first halibut of the trip

Katya, Maria and Erika showing off their halibut! Brothers Eduardo and Luis after another epic day.

Father-son duo with their catch. Meawhile at the KRUD table, Karlei has her first victory of the season in epic fashion.

Karlei excited about her first Krud victory.Eduardo had a good day fishing locally with his mother Erika. In the sunshine they boated this beautiful 28lber within sight of the lodge.

Son and Mother duo, Eduardo and Erika with a beautiful 28 lb chinook.

Erika celebrating a nice catch. Katya also had her turn with Mother Erika for some fun in the sun

Fun in the sun for Katya and Erika! On day 2 down at the lighthouse, Luis Sr did get into something special with the Butcher. They caught and released a 39lber. We applaud Luis for the release. The more of these fish we get to put back, the better chance they have of getting back to spawn. We said goodbye to the Martinez family, but I think we will see them again.

Martinez group are all smiles after their trip of a lifetime. Next up we had long time guest Doug Groseclose with his group of friends. Alongside them, Steve and Seth Fishman. I’ll have more on this group soon, but I’ll leave you with a teaser. Myself and Dougie (staff) were coming out of Port Channel when we got a call from Hanes at Selvesson. He said he had a good fish and said we should swing by for a picture. We sped over for the shot, and low and behold

A good one in the net!

34 lb tyee angled by Seth Fishman.A beauty 34lber on a beautiful day with the prefect release.

A perfect release for this 34 lb tyee. That’s all for now.Check back soon for another update from Port Louis.Cheers,Jordan Knight, Outpost Manager
