August is here at The OP and like the tittle says, things…are getting a lit strange. The Guests are fresh, the crew is in near delirium, and the water ; the water is getting a little warmer…Yes The OP fleet has once again embarked on that long drive southwest, in search of the blue water. That sweet, vibrant and eerie Tuna giving ocean color that we drive around an hour or more to find, waiting for our water temperature to rise to that magic 60+ degrees. We set off with the willing team of father/son Clay and Allan Dowling and long time fishing buddies Paul Drost and Tony Roberts. Tagging along for the trip were Kyla, Marilyne and myself.
Off the dock at 7:30am for the long haul and after about an hour and a bit of driving, our GPS started to register higher and higher temperatures. And then… TUNAWe caught sight of a school jumping on the surface hitting bait. We drop out gear and voila! The first fish is on the boat.
Trolling around at 8-10mph for the next 3 hours we manage to bring home 10 of the tasty little critters. Clay and Allan each pulled in 25lbers. Quite the struggle on the old technium rods. I watched it all.
After that the boys continued closer to shore to get on to the the… that’s right, you guessed it
SalmonThe hunt has been on for the Tyees at the OP, and lately it hasn’t disappointed.Big Bill Zienlinski came crashing in last week with 2 tyees. A 32 and a day later trip derby winning 33lb tubby. Below we have Bill and Trevor Mills with a couple great Halis and a shot of Bill and Trevor, on his first ever salmon fishing trip, who brought in a sweet 32lber.
Here is guide Carl showing Staurt Anderson his first 32lber. I think Dave and Stuart wanted to take Carl home with them.
Meanwhile the crew got out for a little R&R up top. What a day that was
Back at the dock the boys were unloading the tubs
And low and behold, Nick Tosti lays out this beauty find, and trip topping 35lb hog. I saw Nick and Jim had fly gear on the boat. Thant would have been fun with this one…snap!
Time to update the KRUD leader board. We had a little of Andrew
But it was mostly…
Yes after a nice haul of Tuna.
And a great week of Fishing
We say so long for now.May the tubs be full my friends.
