OP Report: Long Days of August – August 15, 2019
August 15, 2019 | 888 Views
From the end of July into the beginning of August, fishing has remained hot.
We continued to have 20+ spring days with larger and larger coho showing up in the 12-15lb range. Brock was on fire last week with the bulk of the chinooks caught during the trips, right out the front door.
Of course, August 5th we did have a fish of lifetime caught right along the Brock wall. I’m sure you have all heard, but Richard Morgan caught and released a 65lb chinook. I got the call on the radio just as we were sitting down for our inside house meeting, that Hanes asked me to come out to Brock with my camera. I sped down the dock on my boat and rushed out to see Hanes driving slowly towards brock from Oglvie. In his net was the historic monster, and the rest was history. Well documented history. Needless to say it was the biggest fish I’ve ever seen and quite thrill for Richard and the Stan group who have been coming here as long as I have and have put the time in to get the prolific fish.
And as odd as it sounds, that trip caught 5 more Tyees the largest of which, was a 39lb release from Bob Stan.
Kathy Bootle & Eugene Nagai both had 33lb catch and releases, as well as a 31lb release for Ian Bootle.
This was the trip of a lifetime for these longtime friends and guest of WCFC.
Kathy finally got her second pin, so now she can wear them as earrings. I still remember her first.
We had some new winners at the KRUD table as well with Scotty B with his first W of the season
Next up we welcomed back Bernie Szewczyk, Jody Lambert and their crew for another great weekend in Port Louis. While no Tyees hit the dock this trip, theirs was likely the biggest single day total of the season. The chinook and coho average was well over 20lb and 10lb and was tubtacular.
Currently in we have a group of all new guests here at the OP. I will report again later, but day saw Steve Conder bring in a perfect 30lb tyee on day one.
Stay tuned for more from terrific Port Louis.
